no LocalSettings.php written during installation

Hi, I'm trying to install mw 1.6.8 on my webserver. I chose this version because my ISP only provides PHP 4.3.4 and MySql 4.0.18. Installation seems to run fine - at least the DB tables have been created and no errors have been displyed by the installer. The only thing the installer was concerned of was register_gobals beeing activated. However, no LocalSettings.php file is beeing written. Both the wiki and the config directories are 777. I tried to simply use a modified version of LocalSettings.php of another running wiki, but then I end up with Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /srv/www/htdocs/kunden/***/html/wiki/includes/SkinTemplate.php on line 794 What could be the problem? A quick googling didn't produce helpful results... Cheers, - Moritz

PHP 5.0.0 Needed

Hi there fellow MediaWiki users I am running Ubuntu Dapper-Drake with PHP 5.1.2 and Apache 2. The current MediaWiki package available from the Ubuntu Repositories is "mediawiki_1.4.14-1ubuntu1_all.deb", which is a number of versions behind. Of course when you install with the .deb package it runs smoothly as PHP 5 was not necessary with MediaWiki 1.4.14. I have placed the MediaWiki files in the document root for apache. I browse to http://192.168.0.2/wiki/ and it tells me MediaWiki 1.7.1, Please setup <http://192.168.0.2/wiki/config/index.php> the wiki first. When I click setup the wiki <http://192.168.0.2/wiki/config/index.php> I get the following error: "PHP 5.0.0 or higher is required. ABORTING." Please help?! Thanking you in advance! Ashley Shaw

Working on upgrading to 1.7.1

All, I'm currently running MediaWIki 1.6.3 on my production Wiki. I am working on upgrading to 1.7.1 and transitioning all the little tweaks. I want to take the time to do it right and move things into extensions where possible. That said, is there a way to extend the MagicWords system via an extension? I've grown to enjoy my __NOCACHE__ addition... Petr, Using your NamespacePermissions extension, is there a way to retrieve a list of namespaces to which a user has RO or RW access? Thanks. Dan

404 handling to shorten urls, header 200 OK doesn't work

Hi, run maintainance script "rebuildMessages.php" after editing the language files. The values are stored in the databse and have to be updated. Disabling shortcut key in mediawiki 1.5.8

Hi, I would like to disable the Alt+D shortcut key in mediawiki (the one I have is 1.5.8) After searching the web I came across which suggested changing ta['ca-delete'] = new Array('d','Delete this page'); entry. I found this entry to be present in languages/Language.php and removed the 'd'. This didn't help. I set ta = false; as well. This also did not help. Some sites referred to monobook.js to have entries for shortcut keys, but I couldn't find any such file on the system. I had been able to disable this in the earlier 1.4.4. Can any of you help. Ontology import

Hi all! I am trying to import Ontologies into Mediawiki. I downloaded a couple of ontologies from the web in .rdf format and imported them using the "Import ontologies" Special page. However, every time I hit Import an error message appears (see below). I am running MediaWiki 1.6.7 and SemanticMediaWiki extension 0.4.3.2. I also added the rdfapi-php to the SemanticMediaWiki "libs" folder. It looks like the .php script is not recognized but I do not really know what the problem is. Does anybody has experiences with importing ontologies and have an idea what the cause of this problem might be? Thank you very much!
