One way you can do this is setup another virtual host at the top of the
list of virtual hosts which responds to the default address
http://mysite only and includes a permanent redirect to the full
address.
Redirect / http://mysite.example.org/

Subject: [Mediawiki-l] Apache virtual hosts
I have a box running mediawiki and am now using virtual hosts on it to
enable me to have a test version of the site running on port 8080. What
is
the "proper" way to force visitors to use the full server dns name? So,
if
I browse to 'http://mysite' the production wiki pops up and
'http://mysite:8080' the test wiki is shown. works great. love it. Now
what I want to happen is that when a visitor goes to 'http://mysite'
they
get redirected to 'http://mysite.example.org' and going to
'http://mysite:8080' takes them to 'http://mysite.example.org:8080'.
Basically, I want them to always be using the full canonical host name.
I'm not sure how to setup a redirect like this in Apache2.
Any tips would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Michael

Hi, I am pretty new to media wiki.
I was trying to follow the guide on tables here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Table
I found that when I put a table in my wiki like this....
{| class="wikitable" style="text-align:center"
|+Multiplication table
|-
! × !! 1 !! 2 !! 3
|-
! 1
| 1 || 2 || 3
|-
! 2
| 2 || 4 || 6
|-
! 3
| 3 || 6 || 9
|-
! 4
| 4 || 8 || 12
|-
! 5
| 5 || 10 || 15
|}
... I don't get the nice looking table with dark and light grey
backgrounds in the cells. I get no borders either.
I went into skins/common/common.css and saw that it didn't have anything
for wikitable so I pasted the following into there...
/* wikitable/prettytable class for skinning normal tables */
table.wikitable,
table.prettytable {
margin: 1em 1em 1em 0;
background: #f9f9f9;
border: 1px #aaaaaa solid;
border-collapse: collapse;
}
table.wikitable th, table.wikitable td,
table.prettytable th, table.prettytable td {
border: 1px #aaaaaa solid;
padding: 0.2em;
}
table.wikitable th,
table.prettytable th {
background: #f2f2f2;
text-align: center;
}
table.wikitable caption,
table.prettytable caption {
margin-left: inherit;
margin-right: inherit;
}
This still didn't help. What else do I need to do?
Thanks,
~Eric
Here is the wiki and corresponding html.
So I guess the answer is yes...class=wikitable is showing up in the
html.
Thanks,
~Eric

Did you check that the class=wikitable attribute is actually showing up
in
the <table> tag when you "view source" in the browser? Is there more
than
one "class" attribute in that tag, or an ID in addition to the "class"?
I'm sorry this isn't a big help, but it might be a little help.

Yeah, that thought had crossed my mind but then I still need one of
those per picture and honestly the use of a template instead of a table
isn't that big of a difference. They both look about the same. The use
of a template would help if I wanted to make some global changes.
{{howtowithpix|
#step one
#step two
#step three
|
[[Image:bla.jpg|thumb|200 px]]
}}
Compared to
{|
|-
#step one
#step two
#step three
|
[[Image:bla.jpg|thumb|200 px]]
|}

If you put the table code in a template, it should be pretty easy for
"Joe"
to edit; something like
{{howtowithpix| <!--steps follow this line-->
#step one
#step two
#step three
| <!--Image link follows this line-->
Image:firstthreesteps.jgp
}}
The template I used was:
{|
|-
|{{{1}}}
|{{{2}}}
|}

Thanks. That seemed to do the job except now if I wanted the pictures
to be on the right and I have a wide monitor it is hard to line the text
up with the image. So I tried to put a horizontal dividing line between
and noticed the horizontal line didn't go all the way across and stopped
at the picture.
Is there a way to get the line to go all the way across?
Thanks,
~Eric

The minimal impact is probably adding <br style="clear: both;" />
between each image.

I just noticed that when the Site Notice is displayed in my current
configuration, that it includes an "Edit" link, which opens up the edit
page for neither the page I'm viewing/editing nor the Site Notice page.
Instead, it opens the edit page for the home page....
