Skinning Problems

Thanks Rob. Problem being I know how to apply skins, but I have no idea what to do with the CSS and .js files provided for this skin. I freely admit to being a TOTAL novice with MediaWiki, and everything I do with those files just sends my layout hinky. Someone else suggested replacing the contents of the main.css file in with the contents of the monobook.css file, but this drove the layout nuts. Also, wherever I placed the .js file, it had no effect. I am really getting stumped here! Thank in advance for your help, Anise -- No virus found in this outgoing message. How to remove pages?

Hi I would like to know how to remove a bunch of pages. I was directly removing them from the DB, more exactly from the wiki_page table using the page_id. This works but I believe that dangling pointers will remain at some other tables. Is there a way to remove mass of pages ? Changing addressing

I need to re-address a hole page-tree. Can I do that someway or do I have to do a copy of each page to new address and the delete the old one??? Fatal error setting up 1.6.7

Dear all, trying to setup 1.6.7 I followed the installation guide provided on the mediawiki website. During configuration, I get the following error: ============================================================= * PHP 4.4.2-1build1 installed * PHP server API is apache2handler; ok, using pretty URLs (index.php/Page_Title) * Have XML / Latin1-UTF-8 conversion support. * PHP's memory_limit is 20M. If this is too low, installation may fail! * Have zlib support; enabling output compression. * Turck MMCache installed * Found GNU diff3: /usr/bin/diff3. * Found ImageMagick: /usr/bin/convert; image thumbnailing will be enabled if you enable uploads. * Found GD graphics library built-in. * Installation directory: /var/www/mediawiki * Script URI path: /mediawiki * Environment checked. You can install MediaWiki. Generating configuration file... * Database type: mysql Fatal error: Unknown function: mysql_get_client_info() in /var/www/mediawiki/config/index.php on line 508 ========================================================================== I'm using Ubuntu Dapper, but I installed following the Debian guide, as the Ubuntu package is pretty old, and my data is dumped to xml, which I think I cannot restore using this old version. You can view it with a web-browser using the gmane interface at: http://news.gmane.org/gmane.org.wikimedia.mediawiki it's a little slow at times, but ok Mediawiki's communication page (http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Communication) also has a link for a newsreader, if you prefer that. Lionel

Thanks brian. Thankfully my installation isn't damaged and i don't have logged in users lurking around my create an account page. I am currently in QA on my site and a few testers mentioned the button to me. When i went to check it out i was logged in - like you mentioned - so i saw it as well. I was trying to figure out how i had completely missed it for so long ;) all is well.

New diff feature for MediaWiki

I'm forwarding this to MediaWiki-l also. I think it's more relevant there anyway. I like that a lot, and think it should be implemented in MediaWiki ASAP. I'm e-mailing him to ask why he only wants to contribute if it's used in 'teh wikipedia', there are lots of other wiki sites out there that need this and could definitely use it. I'm aallll for this, and willing to help in any way I can. Enabling an extension

Hi, I'm trying to enable and extension but I found 3 mentions on the site how to do it. This is one is from the "write your own extension" page: # To activate the extension, include it from your LocalSettings.php # with: include("extensions/YourExtensionName.php"); Also from that same page: All it takes is adding a single line to the end of your LocalSettings.php file (above the ?>): require("extensions/YourExtensionName.php"); And on another page: How do I enable an extension? Copy the extension PHP file to your extensions folder and add a require_once( "extensions/FILENAME" ); statement to your LocalSettings.php, with FILENAME obviously being the filename of your extension, such as Extension.php. So, do I need include, require or require_once to enable an extension on version 1.6.6? Thanks, Simon

Oddity noticed: www. vs no www. in URL

I have just noticed an oddity. I am using MediaWiki 1.6.5, and had it bookmarked as joshua-wopr.com/wiki but recently changed the bookmarked url to www.joshua-wopr.com/wiki and started editting some of my pages. I have noticed that when I complete an edit, and it redisplays the editted page at me, the url is now sans www., and so if I click on Edit again, or follow a link to another page and select Edit on that one, I get prompted to log in again! Is this a bug, or a feature? :-D Is there a way around it? -- Nomad of Norad (David C.
