I'm trying to install mediawiki 1.6.8 on a remote web host. I've
chmod'd the config directory with the appropriate permissions, yet
config/index.php still reports that it can't write the config file
and instructs me to change permissions on the config directory.
I'm wondering if the config script merely generates the
LocalSettings.php file and if so, whether I can simply import a
LocalSettings.php generated from another mediawiki installation.

Joe,
I had similar errors with eAccelerator .9.3 and .9.5, try an SVN snapshot,
svn282 worked for me.
http://snapshots.eaccelerator.net/eaccelerator-svn282.tar.gz
Also, if you are trying to run config/index.php you might want to make a
small edit in that file so eAccelerator is found to exist.
config/index.php
#435
$conf->eaccel = function_exists( 'eaccelerator_get' );
CHANGED TO
$conf->eaccel = function_exists( 'eaccelerator_info' );

Ok, I tried this and enabled the "execute" file permission for this file. Now I no longer get the "cannot locate texvc", so I am making progress...
However, I now receive the following error message on a page that contains a math formula:
Failed to parse (PNG conversion failed; check for correct installation of latex, dvips, gs, and convert): \sqrt{2} \sqrt[n]{x}
Does anyone know what I did wrong or if I need something else?
All I have done so far to enable math support it upload the precompiled texvc file and added the code below to my LocalSettings.php.
Thanks!

Have you tried enabling TeX in your LocalSettings.php? Set the following:
$wgUseTeX = true;
$wgMathPath = "{$wgUploadPath}/math";
$wgMathDirectory = "{$wgUploadDirectory}/math";
Other than that I don't know why your installation wouldn't be finding
texvc. (Unless the UploadPath is wrong...)

I tried that one, but unfortunately it didn't work.
I still receive some sort of "unable to locate texvc" message."
Thanks.

Yeah, you can get it here:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=34373
In the downloads list, under "Support files" you'll notice the "texvc ...
binaries". Download this and place the "texvc" file (there's only one with
no extension) in your math folder in the wiki installation.

I tried to get one of these on a couple of forums but have had no luck.
Does anyone have one?
My server is Linux,
Thanks.

Hello,
I'm attempting to run eAccelerator on a Mediawiki running 1.8.2. I've
noticed that some people have had success with it, but every time I
attempt to run the page caching functions (the optimization function
work great, though), I get the following error on a white page:
*Fatal error*: Cannot access protected property DatabaseMysql::$mOut in
*/path/to/includes/Database.php* on line *415
*Has anyone else come across this error?
Thanks!

Thanks. This sort of works, but in the code, if, in the sidebar, you
give a section a 2-word (eg 'more navigation'), the system
automatically assigns this ID: "#p-more navigation", and I can't
modify the style sheet to style that section name if the ID has a
space in it.
So it works fine with one-word section names, but perhaps there's a
way to give the code a name with hyphens or underscores while the
visible name above the menu items doesn't have those characters?
Is this clear?

I was interested to read that armchairGM.com runs on a version of
mediawiki, and that this is to be used in the first instance by the
new "openserving" service. I realise that this mediawiki-l list is
for the mainstream version of mediawiki, but I was wondering if the
possible widespread adoption of what seems to be a fork, might have
implications back here eventually?
Also while I'm here, can anybody point me to a suitable forum for
discussion of the openserving project from a community builders point
of view please?

Is it possible to checkout MediaWiki's Subversion trunk without being
a developer? I only want to do this:
svn co http://svn.wikimedia.org/viewvc/mediawiki/trunk/extensions/
ConfirmEdit/ ConfirmEdit
But I always get this:
svn: PROPFIND request failed on '/viewvc/mediawiki/trunk/extensions/
ConfirmEdit'
svn: PROPFIND of '/viewvc/mediawiki/trunk/extensions/ConfirmEdit':
301 Moved (http://svn.wikimedia.org)
Is it the same for everyone? Thanks,
Trevor
