Hi,
for safe mode reasons I have to rename the index.php of my wiki to index.cgi. In each file I replaced index.php by index.cgi, too.
When open the index.cgi with a browser I get a message that says:
Redirection limit for this URL exceeded.
Does anyone have experiences with that?
Thanks, Martin

This is often asked for, but AFAIK, you simply cannot do it in MW
through 1.5.5.
It gets brought up so often, they've gotta be thinking about it. Have
you checked bugzilla to see if it's listed, and if so, what its
status is?
:::: I see and admire your manner of living, your warm houses, your
extensive fields of corn, your gardens, your cows, oxen, work-horses,
wagons, and a thousand machines, that I know not the use of. I see
that you are able to clothe yourself, even from weeds and grass. In
short you can do almost what you choose. You whites possess the power
of subduing almost every animal to your use. You are surrounded by
slaves. Everything about you is in chains, and you are slaves
yourselves. I hear I should exchange my presents for yours. I too
should become a slave. Talk to my sons, perhaps they may be persuaded
to adopt your fashions, or at least to recommend them to their sons;
but for myself, I was born free, was raised free, and wish to die
free. -- Big Soldier, 1820 ::::

Is this by any chance the Winter language that can be loaded as an
extension?
I have played with it a bit, and it seemed a bit buggy and
inconsistent, but I *need* this capability.
I don't want to invest a lot of time in Winter if MW1.6 is going to
have similar facilities built-in.

I'd like to add an image with a link so that when the image is clicked
it'll visit the link and not the image page. So far I can only see
how to add a caption containing a link in but this isn't really what
I'm after. Can someone point me in the right direction...
Would like to add something like:
[[Image:Westminstpalace.jpg|[http://this.is.the.url.visited.when.image.is.clicked]|This
is the caption]]
Apologies if this is obvious.
Somewhat off-topic, but maybe another editor out there could use this tip.
This bug has plagued me for a very long time now, and so I finally
broke down and did a some searching. Through the hwll that is
bugzilla I finally found the right bug report:
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=252371
And within it was the solution.. using an extension which reverts the
find functionality to the older, working, version:
http://s93731204.onlinehome.us/firefox/retrofind.html
So if any of you are bothered by not being able to search through your
page when you're editing, do check out that extension and visit the
bug report to vote on it.
For search and replace functionality, try the search text area
bookmarklet: http://wargers.org/home.hccnet.nl/bookmarklets/searchtextarea.htm
This is one of a bunch of things I need to insert into firefox to work
around various programmer choices.. but 1.5 is working nicely. I
think that this is the last outstanding issue I have with firefox.
I'm glad to be able to do regular editing again, without resorting to
an external editor just for searching. =p
We've been trying to download wikipedia pages and their template
dependencies and noticed that several pages use logic templates such as
Template:qif to help display those pages. Mediawiki 1.5.4 won't render the
logic in these templates, instead the template gets inserted verbatim. Is
there a setting in the application that turns this on that we have just
overlooked? How does Wikipedia handle the if else test clauses?
Thanks,
Chris
Hi,
on my webspace, I have safe mode enabled. I changed the permissions of images directory and subdirectories and I made changes to LocalSettings.php.
Still I cannot upload images. I asked the admin and he told me that I have the permission to copy files into /tmp but it has not my UID. I think that is why my uploads are aborted.
Is there a way to change the temp upload directory?
Yours, Martin
