Hello,
My harddisc crashed and all I was able to recover was an old cur table.
I installed Mediawiki 1.4, loaded the cur_table, upgraded to the newest
version, and my wiki is working again. However, there are two problems:
* It says there are 0 articles
* All categories seem empty
mysql> select * from site_stats;
+-----------+----------------+----------------+------------------+----------------+----------+-----------+
| ss_row_id | ss_total_views | ss_total_edits | ss_good_articles | ss_total_pages | ss_users | ss_admins |

(it continues like this)
I ran rebuildall.php. init_stats.php give a database error:
$ php initStats.php

Any hints?

Hi all,
I just subscribed, so this may be a topic that has already been
discussed and if so, I apologize in advance.
I just upgraded from Mac OS X 10.4.3 to 10.4.4, and my Media Wiki
stopped working. Argghhh! I can't live without it.
Here's the error message:
Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /Users/beth/
Sites/mediawiki-1.4.5/includes/ObjectCache.php on line 409
I was running 1.4.5, on MySQL 4.x and php 4.x. I tried to find info
about this problem online, and saw one message from someone who said
it was related to an update in the php version on Mac, but I checked
the documentation and MediaWiki 1.4.5 doesn't seem to require php 4.x
specifically.
I am attempting fix the problem by installing the new version of
Media Wiki, 1.5.4. However, when I try to install I see the
following error in the Web installation.
Database config
MySQL server
Connection failed
If your database server isn't on your web server, enter the name or
IP address here.
I get the same error if I try to use the upgrade / update php scripts.
I've verified I'm using exactly the same database connection host,
user id, and password as the previous version of the wiki, and
indeed, I can connect to it using those same parameters from the
command line with no problem:
[Delerium:~/Sites/wiki] beth% mysql -h localhost -u wikiuser -p
Enter password:
Welcome to the MySQL monitor. Commands end with ; or \g.
Your MySQL connection id is 50 to server version: 4.0.21 Complete
MySQL by Server Logistics
Type 'help;' or '\h' for help. Type '\c' to clear the buffer.
mysql> show databases;
+----------+
| Database |
+----------+
| test |
| wikidb |

mysql>
So, now I'm suspecting that the reason my Media Wiki 1.4.5 is failing
after this update to Mac OS X 10.4.4 may be something else?
Something to do with the way the operating system connects to MySql?
But I'm not sure. I'm running mysql out of /usr/local/mysql and
there is no other installation of mysql (that I *know* of...)
Any clues? Anyone else having a problem after updating to 10.4.4? I
am happy to stick with 1.4.5 if I can fix that error, or upgrade to
1.5.4 if that's the better way to solve it. A solution to either of
these problems would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Beth
On setup, I did not do the GNU Lisence, I'd like to enable that on my mediawiki?
I do not know where to re-setup this feature up?

I was moving a MediaWiki Installation to another account and upgrading the
database from version 1.4.4 to 1.5.5. I updated the LocalSettings.php file
with the changes in database name, etc. I created a AdminSettings.php file
with my dbadmin username and password.
I ran update.php a couple of times and got an access error, so I switched
AdminSettings.php to root user and password. That got past the access
problem, but I hit this error:
[snip]

Am I supposed to have a Table named <databasename>.text?

That has some negative connotations. Why don't we just say the
developers don't want to go in that direction, and leave it at that,
instead of constantly whining and tossing insinuations about?
We have a clash of values here. You value what you're trying to
accomplish. Another person I've been corresponding with is blind to
any value except "market share." The founders of WikiPedia have a set
of values that they've implemented. Just leave it at that -- or fork
off your own version that implements your own "values."
> ... now if I take this hammer, and I turn it around and I use the

I don't think anyone cares if you do this.
The issue is that you're proposing that the end of the hammer be
sharpened to make it more suitable for driving screws, and then
insist that the manufacture take back your "improved" design and
incorporate it into all future hammers. Classic clash of values.

An idea. I'll try to be short.
Wikipedia has a lot of information, and it is heavily crosslinked. But it's not
indexed. I mean an index of people, and index of places and an index of things.
And events. And countries. And lakes. And whatever. Each index is a table (in
database terms), with a few required fields. You could the add a page (or a part
of it) to an index (or more indexes) by specifying theese required fields of an
index (probably in the wiki source). The MediaWiki software would create real
database tables based on this information.
Using this you could look up things/people that happened, borned, died or
whatever on a given day. Or things that happened in Tokyo, or in 1923, and put
that on a Google Map. Look at Wikipedia as an intelligent "who's who" (searching
not only by name). Or list books or movies that have wiki pages about them.
Possibilities are quite broad. Look up pages that are in multiple indexes,
"events" and "presidents of the world" for example.
"indexers" would be wikipedians who index things. Make and index, like
"countries" or "operating systems" or "mysteries". And then collect things into
that index. And specify the attributes (database fields) of that index. There
are pages like this, I know, for database systems for example, but you see this
is a different level. You could create an index of abbreviations for example...
(I don't have much time to discuss it, but if anyone finds it worth working on,
please let me know. Later I might join in. Have a nice day.)
Hi everyone,
Has anyone ever created a new theme for their wiki? If so how did you go
about it and did you follow any documentation about how to create a theme.
Cheers,

Hi,
I followed the directive at
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Installation_FAQ
to solve my "The file is corrupt or has an incorrect extension.
Please check the file and upload again." error.
It works but is still something wrong.
After I added the following codes to my Local LocalSettings.php,
$wgMimeDetectorCommand= "file -bi"; #use external mime detector (linux)
I could upload the image files. But the upload images couldn't be shown.
For example, I uploaded Chieftain.gif to wiki, then I got a document
Image:Chieftain.gif. But in this page, the image couldn't be shown,
and got the information of
"Chieftain.gif (28KB, MIME type: unknown/unknown)"
Nevertheless, I used [[Image:Chieftain.gif]] to embed the image to
other document, it didn't work. Only the text "Image:Chieftain.gif"
was shown.
How to solve this problem?
By the way, I installed mediawiki to my Fedora 4. The following is the
detail version information.
- MediaWiki: 1.5.5
- PHP: 5.0.4 (apache2handler)
- MySQL: 4.1.11

Please forgive me for not searching bugzilla first, but is anyone
else interested in named versions?
It would be great to "flag" bits of history, like "this was stable,
just prior to a massive set of changes." Or simply to be able to mark
events in history, like when a given version of a page was accepted
by consensus or other decree. Or it might be used like software
releases, like a bunch of pages with a version name of '1.5.5'.
This could be used in a powerful version control system, whereby all
pages with identical versions could be exported to create a snapshot
of the wiki at some point in name, if not in time. (Like ENVY/
Developer, Rick! :-)
(Okay. Just say it's in bugzilla, and I'l go crawl back under my
rock... :-)
