Hi,
Excuse what may be a stupid question, but I was burned using another
Wiki software so I have become more cautious: does MediWiki expire old
versions of article and talk pages and delete these from the database?
Or are all versions kept indefinitely (which is what I want)?
Robert.
Is it possible to make a copy of the MonoBook skin, and then rename it to
something else? I want to copy the MonoBook skin, and then start modifying
it from there.
So far, I know that you have to copy the MonoBook folder and rename it to
the skin name. You then have to copy Monobook.php and rename it to the skin
name. You then have to change the lines -
class SkinChristmas extends SkinTemplate {
/** Using monobook. */
function initPage( &$out ) {
SkinTemplate::initPage( $out );
$this->skinname = 'Christmas';
$this->stylename = 'Christmas';
$this->template = 'ChristmasTemplate';
}
}
In this example, it would make a skin called Christmas. Where do you go
from here? What has to be modified in SkinTemplate.php and SkinPHPTal.php?
Hi all,
I'm really sorry to bother you with such a question but I can’t seem
to find an answer (even in the list archives).
This morning I tried to connect to my wiki and I receive a violent :
Warning: main() [function.main]: open_basedir restriction in effect.
File(./normal/UtfNormalUtil.php) is not within the allowed path(s): (/
var/www/tmp/dedalus:/var/www/users/dedalus:/var/www/dns/
dedalus.freezee.org:/usr/share/php) in /var/www/users/dedalus/wiki/
includes/GlobalFunctions.php on line 32
Warning: main(normal/UtfNormalUtil.php) [function.main]: failed to

Fatal error: main() [function.require]: Failed opening required

wiki:/var/www/users/dedalus/wiki/includes:/var/www/users/dedalus/wiki/
languages') in /var/www/users/dedalus/wiki/includes/
GlobalFunctions.php on line 32
Now, I tought that by upgrading to 1.5.0, I’d be able to resolve the
problem (seeing that 1.4.3 isn’t compatible with PHP 5.0.5 and all),
but it didn’t work…
So I tried to reinstall everything but during the setup phase of the
installation I now receive:
Warning: main() [function.main]: open_basedir restriction in effect.
File(./includes/Defines.php) is not within the allowed path(s): (/var/
www/tmp/dedalus:/var/www/users/dedalus:/var/www/dns/
dedalus.freezee.org:/usr/share/php) in /var/www/users/dedalus/wiki/
config/index.php on line 122

Fatal error: main() [function.require]: Failed opening required

var/www/users/dedalus/wiki/includes:/var/www/users/dedalus/wiki/
languages') in /var/www/users/dedalus/wiki/config/index.php on line 122
I really don’t know what to do next…
Any help would be much appreciated.
Many thanks,
Sacco.
Please would some one show me an example of how to give proper credit
when using Wikepedia pages.
I have exported a page from Wikipedia.
Then imported it into my own Wiki at
http://www.aberdare.org/index.php?title=Aberdare
I would like to adapt the above page, or use part thereof.
Thanks.

I notice mediawiki creates some errors for the edit
and history of pages when I try to create urls with a
closing slash like this:
$wgArticlePath = "/wiki/$1/";
Also the article pages take a long time to load, which
isn't the case without the closing slash.
Any way to have this slash at the end of my urls and
still avoid mentioned problems?
thanks,
Koen

Hello,
I'm having trouble adding a link to the navigation bar using the
MediaWiki:Sidebar page.
The format for adding an external link is:
http://www.somelink.com |Somelink
The problem is that, in my case, the external address has a pipe
character in it:
https://www.groundspring.org/donate/index.cfm?ID=2344-0|1118-0 |Donate
So, this shows up in the nav bar as:
1118-0 |Donate
Is there a way to get MediaWiki to ignore the first pipe character?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me on this.

I'll save Brion, Rob, et. al. the trouble of saying, "Someone
designed a WONDERFUL hammer and gave it to you, free. If you want it
to be a screwdriver, that's YOUR problem."
Radical transparency is a central tenet in Wikimedia Foundation.
Anyone who asks for features (privacy, deletion, etc.) that subvert
this are probably not going to get a welcome reception.
But you've got the source. Just do it. Just don't expect much help.

And as a diabolical site admin, all you have to do is set the
statuscode of anything you disagree with or pages that might contain
incriminating evidence of nefarious activities to 0...

I hope this is the right list to post this in. If not, please point me in
the right direction, thanks!
Here's my situation. Our main website www.domain.com is hosted on one
server. I have Mediawiki set up on a physically separate server, but it will
use the URL wiki.domain.com.
The main site does log users in, and stores their information in a
domain-wide cookie. However, to my knowledge, since the sites sit on two
physically separate servers, I cannot use the REMOTE_USER authentication
hack that is available on mediawiki.org.
So basically, I'm looking for a way for Mediawiki to take the username that
is available in the domain-wide cookie and authenticate using that. Has
anyone seen an implementation like that or know where I can find out how to
do that?
Thanks.

Hi,
I would like to automatically include user signatures (name and
timestamp) in talk pages, regardless of whether the user entered the
--~~~~ code at the end of their message. How can I do this in MediaWiki
1.5.5?
Robert.
