I have MediaWiki 1.4 running on mysql 3.23
When I first installed MediaWiki it was on a different mysql version,
I forget the exact number. After I upgraded the searchindex keeps
getting corrupted every couple of weeks.
This is noticed by the users when they save a page they get "Internal
DB error", when I turn on more verbose warnings, it shows an error
when updated the SearchIndex table.
Sure enough when I check the table with "Check table" it show it as
"crashed" I can easily repair it but I wan't to find the root cause of
why it is crashing.
I assume it has something to do with me upgrading mysql after the
install. Any ideas on how to fix it?

I can't seem to find a way to specify the [[Image]] tag to avoid a dead spot
of whitespace to the right or left of the TOC. This looks especially bad if
there's a photo floating right or left to the body of the text; it just
creates a big wasted whitespace in the middle. Ideally I'd like to be able
to get some text in there. Is there any good way to do that?
Here's an example of what I'm talking about on Wikipedia:

Thank you so much. I saw that tag, but obviously didn't understand fully what it did. Thanks. -Kevin

I want to paste this text in as code (with a leading space):
wget -N -nv -nd --glob=on ftp://db.jhuccp.org/web/image/bas/*
but don't want the part beginning with 'ftp://...' to be converted to a live link. How can I suppress this behavior?
Thanks, and have a good weekend.

I'm trying to separate my article and script paths as described in
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Eliminating_index.php_from_the_url in
order to "steer the googlebot" and now I can't seem to render any
images.
I'd originally installed mediawiki (this is on RH Linux) in
/var/www/html/wiki so I did a mv to rename this directory to
/var/www/html/w
I changed /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf
<Directory /var/www/html/w>
AllowOverride FileInfo Options
php_flag register_globals off
</Directory>
Alias /wiki/skins "/var/www/html/w/skins"
Alias /wiki "/var/www/html/w"
The <Directory>.. block was there but I changed wiki to w
I then added the two Alias statements.
(and yes I've restarted httpd after each change)
I then changed LocalSettings.php I think that these are the relevant lines:
$IP = "/var/www/html/w";
#without the following line script links come out as /wiki
$wgScriptPath = "/w";
$wgScript = "{$wgScriptPath}/index.php";
$wgRedirectScript = "{$wgScriptPath}/redirect.php";
#$wgStylePath = "{$wgScriptPath}/skins";
#Basing style on script hides skins???
$wgStylePath = "/wiki/skins";
$wgStyleSheetPath = &$wgStylePath;
## If using PHP as a CGI module, use the ugly URLs
#$wgArticlePath = "$wgScript/$1";
#$wgArticlePath = "$wgScript?title=$1";
$wgArticlePath = "/wiki/$1";
#Default has $wgUploadPath = "{$wgScriptPath}/upload";
#But there is no upload directory and this seems to control where the
#Image object looks so.
$wgUploadPath = "{$wgScriptPath}/images";
#Ditto for $wgUploadDirectory DefaultSettings.php had this as "{$IP}/uploads"
$wgUploadDirectory = "{$IP}/images";
$wgMathPath = "{$wgUploadPath}/math";
$wgLogo = "$wgStylePath/common/images/merclogo.png";
Before I changed $wgUploadPath and $wgUploadDirectory i was getting
missingimage messages, I temporarily modified Skin.php to print the
imagePath instead of just the name and it seemed to be correct and the
files themselves existed. After the change I just get the alt text
and no images.
I thought that it might be a permissions problem so I made sure that
the owner and group of /var/www/html/w and everything below it is
apache,apache
Any ideas? I'm pretty much stumped at this time.
Anyone can help me with this problem of installation. '''Mediawiki
1.4.5 released 2005-06-03'''
1. How to set my main pages from mydomain/wiki/index.php/Main_Page to
just mydomain\wiki\Main_Page.
2. How to enable for upload image for this version.

Arthur,
Thanks for that bit of information, was very helpful. The only
drawback of this is that a new page is pulled up automatically in the
event of there not being an exact match. I would like free text matches
to be pulled up with the option of creating a page with the same name in
the event of no page match.
Thanks,
AJ.

Add the following to your local settings file
# Go button goes straight to the edit screen if the article doesn't
exist
$wgGoToEdit = true;

Hi guys,
I'm pretty new to Wiki's, I have managed to set up my wiki
engine and am figuring things out as I go along. The question I have is
this. How do I go about creating a new page from the search results page
when the search engine hasn't found any results to my keyword? Right now
the search results page does not display that option.
Thanks in advance for the help....
