Hi,
Is there an IDE for PHP (like Visual Studio)? I would like to single step MW code so that I can find out why a user name is not recognized, even if it exists in the user table?
Thank you,
Piyush

When I've successfully populated users directly into the database, I
only filled in the fields I was confident of. That worked as of MW 1.4
+. I haven't tried it on 1.5.3 yet.
I'd try emptying a user_touched field and seeing if that helps.
Of course, no one will be able to log in until they email themselves
a password.

Hi,
I added several rows to the user table. The following fields were populated:
user_name, user_password, user_newpassword, user_real_name, and user_email.
When I try to log in MediaWiki using one of the user names, I receive the message:
There is no user by the name "Pritchie". Check your spelling, or use the form below to create a new user account.
But the "Pritchie" (user_name column value) exists in the user table.
What should I do please?
Thank you,
Piyush
Are there plans for text or flat file support as opposed to MySQL storage?
Thanks.

Hi,
I've just installed the wikimedia engine on our apache server; all
works fine, except the CSS stuff isn't rendered in Firefox 1.0.5 for
the Mac, and Firefox 1.0.7 for Windows. Firefox 1.0.6 for Windows
works fine, as does Safari and IE.
We already have the line "text/css css" in mime.types, and just to be
safe I added the line "AddType text/css .css" to httpd.conf.
Here's where it gets weird. There's a developer toolbar in Firefox
that lets you play with the CSS info for a page; when I load the page
into that (using the "edit css" menu option), the style info suddenly
appears.
Any help would be appreciated for this somewhat minor but still
annoying problem!

Rob,
Thanks again for your answer.
On Wikipedia.org, it uses the following three
templates to render a portal.
It opens the box in the first template and then tries
to enclose the second (content) template inside the
box, finally tries to close this box by the third
template.
1.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikiportal/box-header
2.{content template}
3.

1. Wikimedia's wiki farm uses 1.6-dev.
2. Where on that wiki is the trick being used
successfully?

Well, the first assumption was clearly stated in the part you cut out!
But the rest of your reasons are well taken.

I want to be able to control the "default broken link"
without altering the underlying wikitext. (Ideally I
would like to do this on an article-by-article basis,
but on a site-wide basis would be a good start.) This
is intended to allow re-use or mirroring of article
content across multiple wikis.

I did know all that, but thanks very much for your reply
in any case.
CYa,
JEREMY
I've been running mediawiki at sauwiki.com (a site for my school) for a couple of years now. I upgraded a couple of months ago to the latest version, and it has been working fine until last week, when it greeted me with the database error you can see there now:
A database error has occurred
Query: SELECT ug_group FROM `user_groups` WHERE ug_user = '1'
Function: User::loadFromDatabase
Error: 1017 Can't find file: 'user_groups.MYI' (errno: 2) (localhost)
Backtrace:
* GlobalFunctions.php line 451 calls wfbacktrace()
* Database.php line 408 calls wfdebugdiebacktrace()
* Database.php line 358 calls databasemysql::reportqueryerror()
* Database.php line 734 calls databasemysql::query()
* User.php line 692 calls databasemysql::select()
* User.php line 622 calls user::loadfromdatabase()
* Setup.php line 209 calls user::loadfromsession()
* index.php line 63 calls require_once()
I tried to run check tables on it, but it didn't seem to have any effect.
I found this person:
http://mail.wikipedia.org/pipermail/mediawiki-l/2005-September/007350.html
who had the same problem, and the suggestion was to ask the host about fixing the database, but when I contacted iPowerweb they told me their databases were working fine, and that they didn't support third party software.
When I use phpmyadmin I get a similar error when trying to browse the "users_groups" table, but the other tables are still there.
So what I am asking, is how can I restore my wiki without losing the data?
Thank you,
Brian
