Hi! Has anyone used xmlhttprequest in mediawiki? I am a newbie in using that
but I made it work for sometime and it really worked but after several test
i get some error. The error is regarding responseText. I get the html
version of the page instead of the xml that I made. I found out that the
objectcache prevents the page to execute the xml. After I delete the
objectcache in the database, then the program works the way I want it but
then produce error again after sometime.
Do you know how to disable the object caching. and if ever I do that, is
there any consequence?
I hope someone helps me..

Put the following in /etc/my.cnf:
[mysqld]
old_passwords=1
This has been criticized as somehow being "less secure", but
certainly no less secure than MySQL versions prior to the better
password hashing scheme.

Wiki has a problem
Sorry! This site is experiencing technical difficulties.
Try waiting a few minutes and reloading.
(Can't contact the database server: )
I've tried using the information provided via the link to
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/old-client.html, but without avail.
A link on that page directs me to http://www.php.net/mysqli. The only
way I could think to use this info was to try at the terminal:
cd /usr/local/mysql-standard-5.0.17-osx10.3-powerpc/
.configure --with-mysqli=/Library/MySQL/bin/mysql_config
...though that's probably not right since I get...
NOTE: This is a MySQL binary distribution. It's ready to run, you don't
need to configure it!
Any suggestions would be most helpful. Thanks!
Hi!! Firstly, thanks to Rob Church for the last answer.
Now, a new problem, i have the following lines in LocalSettings.php:
$wgGroupPermissions['*' ]['read'] = false;
$wgWhitelistRead = array ( all pages that could be view by anonymous
sers );
Although User:XXX pages are included en wgWhitelistRead, anonymous users
can't view them. Why??
Thanks a lot!! Bye

I think this is one of many, "Can I beat and hammer MediaWiki into
something I'm more used to."
I think, not only is the answer, "No," but it's actually, "No, isn't
that grand!"
Case in point: I've never seen a language as beautiful and easy to
read as Smalltalk. Yet, everyone who creates a new language makes it
look either like C, or like BASIC. But the way it looks affects the
way it's used!
I very much prefer wiki markup to XML-style things like HTML. I find
it really liberates my thinking, so that formatting is more natural
and more subconscious. And I've been doing HTML longer than I've been
doing wiki!
I think Ward Cunningham was aware of this. Besides the inventor of
wiki, he was also a Smalltalk pioneer and a HyperCard enthusiast. He
could have made it more "HTML-like", or could have spent his time
making an end-user HTML-entry system instead of wiki, but he crafted
wiki markup to fill a need that he saw as unfilled with HTML.

Hey, why don't you try the <poem></poem> extension that went whipping
through here a while ago?
But this is a strange request, coming from someone who wanted "proper
HTML formatting." Certainly, HTML is even LESS LIKELY to "display
what [you] entered, the way [you] entered it"!
I think you're just being grouchy. Relax. Play with wiki markup a
while. Go with the flow.

Hello,
I have installed mediawiki on http://wiki.placedusport2.com/ to give a
place for community work.
I had to export and reimport mysql data via phpmyadmin. All right,
except french spécial char "à" (a with an accent on top) wich appear as
"?" in every page.
I try to change this via a little script in wiki_cur and wiki_text
tables, but nothing work. Could anyone help me?
Sorry if the question was already asked, I have found nothing about this
problem.
Regards
Cédric
ps: here is the script
function Remplace($table, $champid, $champtext)
{
$res=mysql_query('select '.$champid.', '.$champtext.' from '.$table);
while ($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($res))
{
//the string used as search string in str_replace is the one I can see
thought phpmyadmin in cur/old_text fields.
$row[$champtext]=str_replace('', utf8_encode('à'), $row[$champtext]);
mysql_query('UPDATE '.$table.' SET
'.$champtext.'="'.mysql_escape_string($row[$champtext]).'" where
'.$champid.'='.$row[$champid]);
}
}
Thanks ALL for all help,
I need some steps about how to create a Calendar like this one:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/20s.
I have no idea where should I start from.
Thanks a lot, mauro.

After an fresh install of MediaWiki, clicking on the "Create an account or
log in" results in either a blank page or download form (with blank content)
in Firefox, or a "Page cannot be displayed" in IE. All other pages seem to
work fine, but there's no way to login.
Web server = Apache/2.0.50 (Linux/SUSE)
PHP = PHP 4.3.8 (cli) (built: Jul 5 2005 19:33:29)
MySQL = mysql Ver 12.22 Distrib 4.0.21, for suse-linux (i686)
MediaWiki = 1.5.3
Any idea what's going wrong with it?
