I have had another go with this today but the same message keeps coming back
about permissions
I can't see what other permissions the maintenance scripts need

Thanks for replying, I hadn't filled out the details in adminsettings.php.
I created a new database user and put the account details in that file and
re-ran the rebuild script, it came back with a message saying the user I had
created didn't have permission.
I gave the user the following privileges
SELECT
INSERT
UPDATE
DELETE
INDEX
ALTER
Are there any other privileges it needs?
Thanks
Arthur

Make sure AdminSettings.php is present and contains correct username and
password settings as per AdminSettings.sample.
Note that rebuildIndex.php requires ALTER TABLE permission (iirc) to
drop and re-add the fulltext index.

When I edit a page in MediaWiki, the form contains these hidden
variables:
<input type='hidden' value="20051008140830" name="wpStarttime" />
<input type='hidden' value="20051008140830" name="wpEdittime" />
<input type='hidden' value="106c45867969e6679906ec3acc5b7c2e"
name="wpEditToken" />
I guess they are used to detect and resolve edit conflicts.
Are these values necessary when I (or a robot) create a new page?
I guess the timestamps could be set to 1970 or blank, to ensure
that the robot doesn't overwrite any existing pages?
In http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki_Bulk_Page_Creator
the script retrieves the edit page only to extract the token.
What's the point in this? What is the function of wpEditToken?

I recently installed MediaWiki and was surprised to find no forum for users/webmasters/developers. Rather than post a complaint (like several others I saw), I have created one at http://www.mwusers.com . Anyone is welcome, of course. I registered the forum only a few days ago, but the software and portal are all set up and working properly.
I wasn't sure how appropriate it would be to announce this here, but I would like other forum-oriented people like myself to know there is now an option.
If I have violated any rules of etiquette in sending this, please accept my sincere apologies.
Hope to see some of you there.
Travis

I'd like to hire someone to install MediaWiki for me (ASAP) and help
with customization. I'm willing to pay (small budget).
I'll be using MediaWiki to help facilitate on online student
conference of more than 400 students from 70+ countries, to discuss
reform of the United Nations.

I'll need this help this weekend - ASAP. Please contact me offline if
your interested and have experience installing and customizing
MediaWiki. Please, provide some idea of what it would cost to help
with a fairly simple install (I hope it will be simple).
NOTE: I actually tried to install myself, but its not working properly.

Hey all,
I just upgraded to 1.5. I had some problems with basedir restrictions during
the upgrade (which I'll follow up with with my host) but after that it saw
it was upgrading and did the upgrade, and reported successful. I copied over
LocalSettings.php but now when I attempt to go to the wiki
(eewiki.com<http://eewiki.com>)
I get an error:
*Fatal error*: Call to undefined function: getspecial() in *
/home/pmh3133/public_html/eewiki/wiki* on line *97
Any idea how I can rectify this?
Thank you!

Hello,
I've just installed and upgraded to mediawiki 1.5.
Wiki crashes on call to a page with an image. I mean that the page
contains a wiki link to an image.
Fatal error: mime_magic could not be initialized, magic file (null) is
not avaliable in C:\apache2\htdocs\mediawiki15\includes\MimeMagic.php on
line 476
Same message for all images accessed through the "Special:AllPages
namespace=6" (the name of the image appears in the list, and the image
is in the image subfolder)
QUESTIONS
1)Hopefully it is due to my upgrade. Can someone tell me which step I
missed ?
2)Is it a 1.5 bug ? Is there already a patch or some line of code I
should insert somewhere.
3)Should I give more informations ?
CONTEXT:
mediawiki 1.5.0
windows XP (before uploading)
MySQL 4.0.26-nt
PHP Version 4.3.4
mime_magic support enabled
mime_magic.magicfile c:\php4\magic.mime
Thanks a lot for any help.
François
Don't re-run the install script, just copy the LocalSettings.php file
into the root folder of the "child" wikis and tweak the "name"
variables and so forth. Also check the paths. Note that they will
share the same users, data and MediaWiki interface; whatever changes
in one (that is saved to DB) will change in the other.
