Problem after upgrading from 1.4.rc-1 to 1.5.0

Hi @all, i have a problem after doing this update. i used the web-installer and everything worked as expected. -- 1.4 Database was upgraded without errors -- But after copying the generated LocalSettings.php into the root-folder i dont see my Pages. They're in the database but i can't view them in my browser. No errors, when browsing the new wiki-install. Add. Information: - i stopped mysqld and did a copy of my wikidb. - restart mysqld - i used this copy (say wikidbnew) for the web-installer - i used the same settings (user, pw, table-prefix ...) as in my 1.4 install. any suggestions? I have read the documentaion on linking but am still confused. If I'm editing a page and want to link the the next word in the text, let's say the word 'sentance' as a link to another page in my wiki, could some one please show me a simple example of how to do that? What is the code that would be placed on the current page (the one being edited) and how would one link the word in this example "sentence" to an already existing page. MikeT

Never delete users !

I think this is the reason of the problem with WikiSysop password. I had deleted the WikiSysop user on both machines. On the localhost machine I could login as a WikiSysop without the WikiSysop user in the user table !!!! On the distant machine (sicwiki.ouvaton.org) creating a new WikiSysop user didn't work. I had to reinstall on the localhost machine for creating the right user table and copy it from the localhost machine to the distant machine : it works. MediaWiki requires mySQL and PHP. The later versions tend to require/prefer PHP 5 and mySQL 4.1. Backup the database files, backup the whole wiki folder, then copy across your images directory, set up permissions, and run the installer to configure it. This method means that if anything goes wrong, you can go straight back to the old setup with minimal bother. There aren't any major major changes between the two versions. I'm trying to find the common folder (below) to put my logo image in the correct place but can't seem to find the common folder? Using 1/4 for now. $wgLogo = "$wgStylePath/common/images/wiki.png";

Hi, As I understand from my "manipulations" on two MediaWiki systems the WikiSysop is not managed as a user in the "user" table. On one of the systems it's OK with the WikiSysop, on the other its like I "lost" the password. Where is the variable with the password ? Thanks in advance. Hello, I want to generate automatically HTML (or plan text) pages which should be imported to my MediaWiki. It should be possible to reference them from other MediaWiki pages like normal MediaWiki pages. Does anybody know how this could work? Does any tools exist for importing? Thank you Arthur Guy and Rob Church for your replies! Both replies suggested, in essence: Browse to the images directory in Windows Explorer, right-click, choose Properties, and locate the Security properties. You need to grant read-write access to IUSR_GUEST and IUSR_<name>, where <name> is the local machine name. I was using simple file sharing so I initially could not set the security at this granular a level. I followed the directions at http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp_filesharing/index.htm to disable simple file sharing and allow an ACL or access control list of users. But then I couldn't find the IUSR_etc user names in the list of users. I dropped to the command line and used 'net user' to list the users. I found there the users IUSR_computername and IWAM_computername (where computername is my computer's name!). A quick check at http://support.sas.com/rnd/itech/doc/admin/sasserver/comcdom/aspcom.html suggested these were the users I needed to add to the security settings as described. I right-clicked the images directory selected 'sharing and security' selected the security tab and clicked the add button. I typed in these user names, hit the 'check names' button, and ok. Back in the security tab I made sure only read and write were checked 'allow' for these two users. I also could have searched for the user names after clicking the add button, clicking advanced button, clicking the find now button. I am now able to upload images. Thanks again for your help! Am I understanding this setting correctly or am I 180-degrees off? This setting means that a person does NOT have to log in to edit pages. Correct? Why is my wiki making users log in to simply view pages? #Entirely disable Anonymous Edits $wgWhitelistEdit = false; Mike T
