Hello everyone,
You may know Wikimedia South Africa has been involved in copyright amendment bill advocacy work for the past eight or so years now. If you are free and interested to learn more and you are based in Cape Town we, along with many other groups, will be presenting to the Western Cape Legislature tomorrow on the issue. Wikimedia South Africa supports the Copyright Amendment bill because it contains Freedom of Panorama and Fair Use, both are copyright related legal doctrines that make editing Wikipedia easier. We are especially strong supporters of Freedom of Panorama as it will allow us to upload our own photographs of public works (such as public monuments and the facades of buildings) on to Wikimedia commons where they can then be used on Wikipedia.
To learn more about the chapter's advocacy efforts you can checkout the page on meta wiki here: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_South_Africa/Copyright_Amendment_B...
I am led to believe that this event is open to the public should you wish to attend but you are advised to come early to get a seat.
Regards,
Douglas Scott
