Hello everyone,
We will be doing another Cape Town Wiki meetup on the 7th December. We are
trying out a new location again so please note the venue change. OpenUp
<https://openup.org.za/> has very kindly let us use their downstairs space
at the Code Bridge in Newlands
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newlands,_Cape_Town> which is very near to
Claremont <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claremont,_Cape_Town> train
station and taxi rank. It also has ample free parking in front of the
building. Also located nearby is Cavendish Square. Code Bridge is located
in the bridge (hence the name) that allows Campground Street to cross both
the railway line and Letterstedt Road.
This is the same location as the Wikimedia ZA 5-year strategy workshop and
AGM happening on the 14th and 15th December respectively. I will send out
another email about that now.
The parking and building can only be access by the Helmlock Street /
Letterstedt Road entrance. Parking is free.
See the location on the map to the right.
In summary the details are:
Date: Saturday the 7 December
Time: free to arrive anytime between 10:00 - 14:00
Location: Code Bridge <https://codebridge.org.za/>, 1 Thicket St,
Newlands, Cape Town, 7700
As always the meetup is open for everyone to join. So if you or anyone you
know as an interest in learning more about free knowledge or just want to
talk about it then please join us.
For more information please see the event page on Wikipedia here:

Cheers,
Douglas.

We have recently added a couple of new members to the mailing list so
apologies if you are only receiving this AGM notification now.
Please also check out the AGM agenda page (which will turn into the record
of the minutes after the AGM) on the WMZA website here:
http://wikimedia.org.za/wiki/2020-AGM
That page has a number of details and links on it relevant to the AGM so
please do check it out. This includes our 2019/20 report, our WMF grant
application for 2020/21, and a summary of our advocacy efforts. It also has
a link to our 2019 AGM minutes <http://wikimedia.org.za/wiki/2019-AGM> which
we will review during the meeting.

The chapter has given out a couple of 1 GB data bundles to help people
attend, thank you to those who have contacted me to get those.
Regards,
Douglas.

Hello everyone,
This is a quick reminder of the upcoming Wikimedia South Africa AGM which
will be happening on Saturday the 28th November. Please remember to RSVP
<https://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJErdOmqqj0sHdOmv909RIBNe2KXEWcwo5Zk> for
that event on Zoom if you have not already done so. The event will be 100%
online this year. If you feel you might not be able to attend due to data
cost issues then please email me as the chapter has some budget to help
subsidise data costs for this meeting.
I also want to share with everyone our annual report for 2019/20
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Simple/Applications/Wikimedia_South_…>prepared
for the Wikimedia Foundation. It gives a full summary of what the chapter
did in the previous year. Remember to read both the half-year report for
the July-Dec 2019 period and the Full report for the Jan-June 2020 period.
I also want to give everyone a heads up I will be stepping down as
President of Wikimedia South Africa this year as, in my opinion, five years
is plenty long enough for anyone to be president of a chapter. I am now
looking forward to being a part of chapter activities in a more junior
volunteer capacity. I want to thank all chapter members for your support
over the past few years. It has been a fantastic volunteer
experience leading the chapter and I feel so privileged to have served with
and for such a wonderful group of people.
Regards,
Douglas.

Greetings,
Thank you very much for participating in the *Months of African Cinema*
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_AfroCine/Months_of_Afri…>
global
contest/edit-a-thon, and thank you for your contributions so far.
It is already the middle of the contest and a lot have been achieved
already! We have been able to get over 1,500 articles created in over
fifteen (15) languages! This would not have been possible without your
support and we want to thank you. If you have not yet listed your name as a
participant in the project main page please do so.[1] If you are an events’
coordinator who have organized an event for this edit-a-thon, also remember
to list your event under the “Afrocine events” section.
Please make sure to list articles you have created or improved in the article
achievements
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_AfroCine/Months_of_Afri…>’
section
of the contest page, so that they can be easily tracked.[1] To be able to
claim prizes, please also list your articles on the users by articles
page.[2]
We would be awarding prizes to different categories of winners:
- *Overall winner*
- 1st - $500
- 2nd - $200
- 3rd - $100
- *Diversity winner* - $100
- *Gender-gap fillers* - $100
- *Language Winners* - up to $100
We are very excited about what has been achieved so far, but your
contributions are still needed to further exceed all expectations! Let’s
create more articles before the end of this contest, which is this
November!!!
Thank you once again for being part of this global event!

Hello everyone,
This is to let you know that the Wikimedia South Africa Annual General
Meeting (AGM) will be taking place on the 28 November 2020 from 10:00 with
elections after a lunch time intermission. The event will be held entirely
online.
Details on how to join the AGM will be sent out within the next few days
wherein you will be able to RSVP.
Unfortunately due to uncertainties created by the COVID 19 lockdown we were
unable to have the AGM in August/September as originally planned and we are
unable to have it in a face-to-face environment like we usually do. On the
up side hosting the event entirely online will allow you to attend the
event from the comfort of your own home.
A gentle reminder that only chapter members are allowed to vote on
resolutions. So please remember to renew your membership
<http://wikimedia.org.za/wiki/Template:Join-Us> before the AGM so you can
vote. The membership fee is financial contribution either monthly or
annually of any amount.
Best regards,
Douglas.
