Hi all,
I have recently relocated to Indore. I am exploring the opportunity of
organising Xth anniversary celebrations of Wikipedia here. If there are any
people on this list who are from Indore or near by, please contact me off-list
at the earliest.
Regards,
Srinivas.

Looking for something to read on my flight to Delhi, I saw a magazine called
"Digit" with 3 DVDs for 250 Rs. On one of the DVDs was the Wikimedia logo,
so I had to check it out.
Turns out that the DVD contained a small number of featured pictures from
Wikimedia Commons. One of the other DVDs had a video of Jimmy's recent
Mumbai talk on it.
Now, I don't think they obtained permission to use our logo, and I didn't
check for media attribution, but it was nice to see regardless.

hello,
Here is the project proposal post made to Foundation-I mail-list for
starting a wiki to monitor the government spending. I guess here in India,
we must be more that convinced that a sustained, widely accessible and
comprehensive continuous tracking of Gov spending is key. If our ex-Prime
Minister is to be believed, out of every 1 rupee of public money spent, only
15 paise reach the intended destination.
This effort is supposed to bring clarity about the allocations and actual
delivery to bring forth the requisite citizen's pressure on the govt for
greater accountability. This is a massive undertaking, no single person /
org can do it. As initial check suggests, there are many sources of
information, we need to act as a central publicly accessable and easy to use
/ modify repository for existing info and then start filling the information
gaps.
Project Proposal has been made @
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/GovSpendWatchWiki
Initial site can be set up on one of the wiki-farms, like Wikia. Requesting
your feedback.
I will also try to attend today's Wikipedia:Meetup in Bangalore, hopefully
to meet with some of you there.

Prasad

This would surely be interesting to a lot of people. But Wikimedia itself is
not a political body, so projects like this may not be seen as appropriate
for here.
A lot of projects with wide interest are hosted on wiki farms though.
There are many wiki farms and other bodies and many groups use wikis for the
kind of proposal you have. Perhaps set up a wiki on a wiki
farm<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiki_farm>
?

Dear All,
I need to write about Wikipedia in India. Need to know about access and
content creation with an Indian angle. Are Indian surfers using Wiki a
lot? Any statistics would help (growth over past few years)
Similarly do Indians create/contribute content? What is your take on
Indian languages?
Feel free to include any other topic related to Wiki-India.
Your input will be of great help for the chapter I am writing in a book.
Please feel free to directly write to me.
regards,

To all Puneri Wikipedians (both tatya and non-tatya),
Gosh, just saw the grand scale of events planned in Bangalore. Pune's
missing on the list.
We need to be on the world map guys. Has anyone planned anything? Our
Marathi Wikipedia crowd?
I suggest one or all or even better more of the following be organised :
* Newbie meet (I volunteer to give an editing tutorial session in English
cum Marathi by me but on English Wikipedia. I could be partnered by someone
showing the same for Marathi Wikipedia).
* Marathi Wikipedia Meetup.
* Wikimedia loves Pune photothon, where people go and photograph Pune's
landmarks and add them to Commons.
* Outreach activities to schools/colleges?
* Any takers for birdwatching a la Bangalore/Shyamal?
Warm regards,
Ashwin Baindur
