Hi,
WMIN chapter president Rahul Deshmukh attended Wikimania 2018 in Cape Town
without being selected for any type of scholarship. My question is why was
he sent to the conference depriving other community members from India who
were in the waiting list.
He spoke in the informal chairpersons' meetup for few minutes. The meeting
doesn't require president of the organization's presence, and already there
were 2 EC member of WMIN present, who could have attended the meeting.
To me, this is utter misuse of power and abuse of donation money.
Thanks,
Bodhisattwa
Dear all,
The Indian community mailing list is arguably the most used mailing list by
the Indian Wikimedia community. However, recently some users have reported
problems with subscription and sending messages as non-subscribers. All
these issues are need to be dealt by the list admins at the earliest
possible. However, the issues remain unsolved.
So I think more active community members must be added as mailing list
admins so that these issues can be addressed in a timely manner.
List info at: https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/Wikimediaindia-l
Looking forward for comments from other members.

Subject: [Wikidata] Treating 'transgender female' as 'female' in gendered
languages
To: Discussion list for the Wikidata project. <
wikidata-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
Hi.
If your language has feminine and masculine forms for occupations, and your
Wikipedia embeds occupations from Wikidata and applies the female label in
case of P21 equalling 'female', please make sure your code also uses the
feminine form for P21 equalling 'transgender female'.
I just made this correction on the Hebrew Wikipedia, here:
https://he.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=%D7%99%D7%97%D7%99%D7%93%D7%94:P…
(note that the diff is right-to-left here, i.e. my new code is on the
*left*.) [I know, I know...]
Cheers,
A.

*Hi, I am leaving the Wikimedia Foundation to pursue other ideas and
opportunities. I will be working until 15th of July 2018. During my time
here, it was my honor to work alongside many brilliant colleagues from all
the Asian Wikimedia communities, User Groups, chapters, and CIS-A2K. I am
especially proud that, in collaboration with my team and partners, I had
the opportunity to design, launch, and implement the very successful pilot
partnership called Project Tiger
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Supporting_Indian_Language_Wikipedias_Progr…>.This
project and many other initiatives for the Asian region will be continued
according to our team's Annual plan. Please contact

Greetings,
This is an open call for memberships to Wikimedia India Chapter. Membership
is open to Indian citizens (aged 18 years and above) and Institutions
registered in India. As a member, you'll have voting rights in the
chapter's elections and also represent Wikimedia India in dealing with
institutions, after appropriate authorization.
The annual membership fee is ₹100/- for Individuals and ₹1000/- for
Institutions. All the new memberships and renewals of previous memberships
are effective through 31 March 2019. The membership fee can be paid either
by NEFT/Statebank Interbranch transfer/DD/Cheque to Chapter Bank account.
If you would like to deposit cash/outstation cheques into Chapter SBI Bank
account, at SBI branches, please add ₹25/- as collection charges. However
it is advised to transfer the amount through NEFT as the charges are much
lower, and helps in expediting the process.
Membership forms are as follows:
For individuals:
http://wiki.wikimedia.in/File:WikimediaChapterMembershipFormIndividual.pdf
For institutions:
http://wiki.wikimedia.in/File:WikimediaChapterMembershipFormInstitution.pdf
The duly completed membership application along with payment instrument/or
details of payment needs to be sent to Chapter office: Wikimedia Chapter,
No. 194, 2nd ‘C’ Cross, Domlur, 2nd Stage, Bangalore - 560071.
To comply with the legal requirements, it is mandatory that an applying
member should also send either a hard or soft copy of an identity proof
which mentions their name, along with date of birth, photo and address. The
typical identity documents acceptable are: (i) Voter ID (ii) Passport (iii)
PAN card (iv) Driving License (v) Aadhaar Card
The Chapter membership committee will endeavour to process all applications
within four weeks. WMC reserves the right to reject membership
applications, with reason. In such cases, if payment is already made, the
same will be refunded without any interest for the intervening period
otherwise, the payment instrument (Cheque/DD) will be returned. However,
the Rules and Regulations of the Wikimedia Chapter provide for appeal in
such cases in Article IV-1. “In cases where the Executive Committee does
not approve the application for membership of a person, said person may
appeal to the General Body at the next Annual General Meeting.”
Kindly let me know if you have any queries.
