Dear All,
We are please to inform that Gujarati Wikisource Community has started "Audio Book" section for the benefit of the visually impaired people as well as for the people who do not take out time to read due to compulsions of busy schedule.
The idea of an audio book was there for a long time in mind but due to small community size the attention could not be made on this front. In the Gujarati Wikisoruce Conference at Ahmadabad (23 & 24 February 2019), One of the Participant Mr. Modern Bhatt showed keen interest on this project and he started working on the same. He has single handedly completed 5 books and working on the next book. The community highly appreciates the great work by Mr. Modern Bhatt.
So far 5 full books have been converted to Audio Format. Their links can be found at the Gujarati Wikisource main page. The Audio file link is placed at Chapter Header as well as, as an Audio Book Index, wherein All the Audio files are placed as per Index. an Example of the same can be viewed here https://w.wiki/4j9
Thanking you,
Sushant Savla
Hello,
I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce Manavpreet Kaur as a
Community Relationship Specialist with a particular focus towards India.
Ms.Kaur is based in India, and will be working with the Wikimedia
Foundation. She will be on a short-term contract, and during this period
primarily act as a liaison to conduct timely interactions with community
members for a few project rollouts. She will be available through on-wiki
channels and also conduct off-wiki or in-person meetings to facilitate
discussions for topics that may need a collaborative understanding of
requirements and implementation.
As part of ongoing Wikimedia Foundation product initiatives, we realized an
immediate need to further strengthen the community interactions within
India. This arises as we gain momentum towards providing more structured
support through our products, towards languages and communities who have
faced severe challenges around availability and creation of content.
Manavpreet will reach out very shortly with more details on these projects,
and the plans around them. We hope these interactions will help us support
the wider mission, with additional focus on local needs, to build a more
inclusive and contemporary vision for our projects.

Dear User : Asaf(WMF),
Writing as per [1], I am taking the discussion forward here to a separate
thread.
As stated before on this mailing thread [2], Wikimedia India (WMIN) has
been undergoing activities and reporting them on quarterly basis. The
subsequent quarterly results would be shared once the next quarter
finishes. The subsequent quarterly report would be published in a changed
formed based on suggestions received from the community [3]. Activities may
be less due to no source of regular funds [4] however, Community Members
from India put their efforts, strive hard to take the movement ahead. No
Wikimedia Foundation Grants like Rapid Grant, Project Grant etc have been
applied by WMIN members to support any Chapter activity. They remain
self-financed.
WMIN is compliant with the reporting and the said could be attained from
Chapter's Report page on Meta. However, there are few issues with the
Affiliations Committee and the said have been communicated on WMIN
Members-Mailing on May 15th. 2019. WMIN has requested Affiliations
Committee to allow us to be more transparent by (a) Taking the conversation
over Meta (b) Uploading All Mails Over A Cloud Document To Share It with a
wider audience (c) Uploading All PDFs sent over mail to Commons etc.
User: Asaf(WMF), thank you for the wishes, let's work together, take the
Chapter and Indian Community ahead. :)
Regards,
Abhinav

Hello Indic Wikimedians,
I am delighted to share a survey that will help us in the building a
comprehensive list of campaigns and contests organized by the Indic
communities on various Wikimedia projects like Wikimedia Commons,
Wikisource, Wikipedia, Wikidata etc. We also want to learn what's working
in them and what are the areas that needs more support.
If you have organized or participated in any campaign or contest (such as
Wiki Loves Monuments type Commons contest, Wikisource Proofreading Contest,
Wikidata labelathons, 1lib1ref campaigns etc.), we would like to hear from
you.
You can find the *Privacy Policy for the Survey* at:
https://foundation.wikimedia.org/wiki/Indic_Wikimedia_Campaigns_and_Contest…
*Please find the link to the Survey below:*

P.S. If you have been involved in *multiple campaigns/contests*, feel free
to *submit *the form *multiple times*.
Looking forward to hearing and learning from you.

Subject: New tutorial video on submitting media via OTRS + request for help
To: Wikimedia Commons Discussion List <commons-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>,
Wikimedia Mailing List <wikimedia-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
Hello.
We have released a comprehensive tutorial video -- as one medium-length
video and as several shorter clips -- aimed at helping non-Wikimedians
submit media to Wikimedia Commons via OTRS.
This video is the result of a pilot project within the framework of
the Community
Capacity Development <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/CCD>[1] program at
the Wikimedia Foundation. It was led by Asaf Bartov
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Asaf_(WMF)>[2], from the Community
Development team, with the active involvement of an advisory committee made
up of experienced OTRS and Commons volunteers. The script development and
video production were done by contractor Victor Grigas
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:VGrigas_(WMF)>[3], and reviewed by
the advisory committee.
The video is intended to be useful to OTRS agents, Commons volunteers, and
Wikipedia volunteers in various languages, for helping *non-Wikimedians*
submit media via OTRS. It is hoped that being able to refer people to the
video, in whole or in part (to the introduction plus a specific scenario,
perhaps), would save at least some of the *very common* back-and-forth
correspondence many OTRS agents have to conduct with non-Wikimedian
contributors struggling to understand copyright and Commons norms.
The video is designed to be easy to translate and localize, with no speech,
and a lot of interstitials, which should facilitate preparing localized
versions of the video(s).
The page describing the video, including links to the various versions, the
script, and even B-roll material, is here:
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Video_tutorial_on_how_to_submit_media_to_Wi…>*
I request your help in three ways:
1. Spread the news in your communities, and ensure your fellow volunteers
are aware of the availability of this resource.
2. Translate the video (the page itself is much less important) into your
language, if not English.
3. Provide feedback on the video, or on your use of it, ideally on-wiki, in
the talk page of the page linked above.
Thanks,
A.
