Condition of a Wikimedian, arrested by UP Police

Dear Indian Wikimedians, As many of you may have known, one of our fellow Wikimedian was arrested by Uttar Pradesh Police in October 2020. His name is Siddique Kappan (His wikimedia username is User:Sidheeq). He is from Kerala, and he was active in Wikimedia projects (mainly in Malayalam Wikipedia) until his arrest. Incidently he is a journalist and he was arrested from the home of Hathras rape and murder victim while reporting the victim Dalit girl's family members. UP Police has slapped Sedition, Terrorism as well as UAPA charges against him. Kappen is diabetic and now COVID positive. He was admitted to hospital only after he collapsed in the jail cell. With his deteriorating health, it was accused that Kappan was chained to hospital bed like an animal. Today's news reports say that he is in critical condition. (You could always google "Siddique Kappan") As a tone deaf people I don't expect anything from this mail, I just wish to share the information. Subhas Chandra Bose's 125th birth anniversary Wikimedia celebration

Indic Wikisource Proofreadthon March 2022

Hello Indic Wikisource proofreaders, We are happy to announce that the Indic Wikisource Proofreadthon March 2022 [1] will be starting from tomorrow 01 March 2022 and will continue up to 16th March 2022. We are also expecting higher participation than in previous contest. We heartily welcome new Wikimedians from various parts of the country to work on restoring our literary heritage to the digital era. Just like the previous contest held in August 2020, we again promise to wrap up everything within the expected timeline after the competition ends. Rapid Grants report submitted for Annual Plan 2021-22 of West Bengal Wikimedians User Group

Hello all, This is to inform you all, that the Rapid Grants report for Annual Plan 2021-22 of West Bengal Wikimedians User Group has been submitted. We have spent INR 122169 for these activities and still have INR 25501 left which is expected to be utilized for our next years' activities. International Mother Language Day 2022 Mini edit-a-thon

Dear Wikimedians, Hope you are doing well. As A2K announced in January that Wikimedia Wikimeet India 2022 is postponed for now. The dates were for the event from 18 to 20 February. Last year we were together to celebrate International Mother Language Day which is on 21 February during WMWM. This time we will celebrate the day by creating & developing articles on local Wikis, proofreading the content on Wikisource, items that need to be created on Wikidata [Labels & Descriptions], some language-related content must be uploaded on Wikimedia Commons and so on. Therefore, the same dates 19 & 20 February are blocked for a two-days long edit-a-thon to increase content about languages or related to languages.
