(I apologize in advance if this is off-topic, but I
think it bears
discussing)
I agree, though I would've preferred discussing that in a new thread
(among other things, that'd make the discussion easier to find, for
posterity).
I know, and often say to others, that "MediaWiki
is not a Content Management
System". Nevertheless, people often use it as such (myself included).
Same here.
There are a number of various tweaks, extensions and
settings that are
dangerous to expose to public wikis with self-registering or guest users,
but are nevertheless very useful if your wiki has a single editor or only a
very limited, trusted editorship.
Could you provide a few examples? (I'm eager to learn... )
So, how does the community feel, in general, about
documenting these kinds
of "unsafe for everyone" but "useful when authorship is limited"
settings?
I'm not asking someone to do the work - I'm proposing a known, central
location for such dangerous settings so that they're easier to monitor and
moderate.
I'd certainly welcome that - with the appropriate warning labels, of
course (cf. Fernando's PageSecurity documentation at
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:PageSecurity).
In fact, just a list of available options (or hacks) would be a great
help already, if only to get inspired.
Now let's prepare to get shot down by Rob...
