Yeah - I think it's safe to say that quite a number of individuals fall into
the camp of "I use MW for my (admittedly non-wikiesque) web site because
it's so gosh-darned easy to do"
Though I don't believe it is appropriate to start pandering to this
demographic by implementing features in the core, it _does_ make a lot of
sense to have a special place to document extensions, features, settings,
hacks (etc) that only apply to these use-cases.
Now, where should we put that ... :)

I know quite a few people whose personal website runs on MediaWiki
just 'cos they can. They're the only editor and it's just a handy way
of putting up nicely-formatted pages and resources without having to
write HTML or work too hard.
*raises hand* Yes, even I switched from writing my webpages with vim to
using MediaWiki, because it is so much easier.
As I am the only editor, I am not too concerned with security.
