Hello,
I have v.1.7.1.
Can I set up MediaWiki so that requests to register are sent to me so I can approve the registration?
Thanks.
Tim

Hello,
I have added tabs to the top of my pages to jump users to one of three specific pages. For example, if you are on page NS-A: Subject, the tabs will be NS-A:Subject, NS-B:Subject and NS-C:Subject.
That part I have down just fine. The question I have is how do I check to see if any of those pages exist? I would like to choose to use the regular class or the 'new' class for the hyperlink display.
I know you can check to see if the current page exists, but that's not what I am looking for.
Thanks,
Mike
Just sending this back to the list, since I didn't get a response earlier. Anyone have any ideas on how I can check to see if a specific article exists that isn't the currecnt article? I want to change the class used in the link, and possibly send them directly to the edit page.
Thanks in advance,
Mike

Perhaps you dont got a reply, because you asked in a foreign thread, just by replying to an other message.
Modern mailclients show messages "as a thread", so dont open a new topic by replying to other messages.
Ahh, good call. Thanks.

the hard way (I'm sure a more elegant and simpler solution exists) :
$articlename = Title::newFromText("namespace:titleofarticle");
if($articlename->exists()){ echo "it does exist"; } else{ echo "it does not exist"; }

It's not really set up to do that easily. If you want to, per some conversations a month or so ago on the list, you may want to:
* Change default user read permission to off * Set whitelist pages to include the homepage and login and register pages * Set up a new user group with global read permissions
Anyone can set up an account, but all it gives them is read access to the front door. To do more than that, you have to have someone with burecrat permission add them to the global read group.

That may not work. I want the site readable by all and editable by registered users. So I guess I really can't moderate the registrations without losing other functionality I need.

New users can go into a group that has read, but not edit permission. You would then change their group membership to a group that can edit as part of the registration process. Adding some code to shoot off an email upon user creation shouldn't be too difficult.

I have a site running with the only-few-pages readable default user perms, but also experimented with the read-only perms for default users with an editors group, and it worked fine as expected and stated above.
I have no adivce about an automatic email on new registration 8-)

My big worry is that, like with a forum, that spambots will register automatically and then totally screw up the wiki with spam. Is MediaWiki pretty immune to this, given that there's no way to moderate registrations? I just don't have the bandwidth to monitor the wiki 24/7. Thanks.

If you do what we suggested, with new accounts read-only and manual burecrat intervention required to write-authorize new accounts, then you should be pretty safe...

You can use the extension ConfirmEdit and Captcha to prevent automated registrations.
