Our team is looking mostly for a navigation menu like the current one below
the search box in the monobook skin, but would contain our Category:xxx links.
We are attempting to keep the number of categories to no more than 10. It is a
very small wiki and very specialized. Perhaps as we grow, we might consider a
drop-down menu, but that sounds like it might require more coding time than
what our current team of volunteers can handle.

Okay, thanks.

I've been trying to figure out where the default user preferences are
but I haven't been able to. For new users or the "not logged in" user,
how can I set the default preferences (for example use underlined links,
etc).
Thanks,
Matias
Situation:
I have a manual where each chapter has its' own page/article. The size of
it makes it difficult to combine it all into one page/article.
Problem:
I wish at time to be able to view the entire manual, e.g. for printing
purposes.
Question:
Is there any way of combining pages dynamically, so that I e.g. can set up
a metapage of sorts that imports the content of each of the manual's pages
dynamically?
Any and all help will be appreciated :-)

Hi all:
My MediaWiki version is below:
MediaWiki :1.3.0beta3
PHP : 4.2.2 (apache2filter)
MySQL : 3.23.58
My problem:
When I search for a term, and Mediawiki does not find anything, I
get this warning message:
Warning: Wrong datatype for second argument in call to in_array in
/path/to/FullTextStopList.php on line 588.
Is it due to MySQL version, or is there a workaround?
Thanks,
Saurav
Hi people, new kid on the block...
I just got 1.2.26 off the sf.net download section, I am in the process
of setting up a Hebrew wiki site and MediaWiki seemed to be the best
solution currently available.
Installation went fine without a hitch. I had a few fixes to do on the
rewriting rules to get it to run right (the example on the site had a
few syntax errors), and then I went looking for skins, since the default
is... well, dull.
The best that comes with the tarball seems to be Blue Cologne, I read
the users' guide and I see that many others are listed - Mono, MonoBook,
DaVinci and others, but for the life of me I can't see where to download
them from, and how to install them once they were here (in Language.php
I got to cologneBlue by selecting a number, but I could not find where
that was enumerated... the only place I haven't looked is inside the DB
itself, should I?). I am guessing MonoBook and the rest are on the CVS
only, but I was aiming at getting a stable version rather than the
latest CVS flux version. How do I get my paws on the skin currently used
by (he|en).Wikipedia.org for instance?
as a side note - my server is running Debian Stable, so MySQL and php
are supposedly almost too old for mediawiki, but I'm glad to say it
seems to be working fine.
Thanks in advance for your patiance and help, I greatly appreciate your
work on this wonderful useful project! Once I get the last few things
ironed out I may even migrate some of the stuff I have today on twiki,
this is really great!
Ira.
I've come across the same problem as you several times now. Last night
I spent some time debugging the code (ugg) and narrowed the problem
down to line 441 in file Template.php. It seems as though the fopen
call fails and nothing happens after that.
I'm assuming there is a php setting somewhere that can fix the cause of
this but i'm not too sure what or where.
Looking around for some info about fopen it seems that safe_mode and
open_basedir are two settings that can affect things. I don't have
safe_mode enabled and open_basedir isn't set to anything.
Anyone have a clue???
Cheers,
ahmi

I've just downloaded RC3, and tried to install it, but no luck. In fact, I
get exactly the same result as with RC2. After successfully completing the
installation process and moving the LocalSettings.php file from the config
directory, I click in the link that's supposed to take me to the front page,
and instead I get:
[pear_error: message="failed to open stream: Operation not permitted" code=0
mode=return level=notice prefix="" info=""]
Here's the successful environment check:
--------------------------------
PHP 4.3.5 ok
PHP server API is apache; ok, using pretty URLs (index.php/Page_Title)
Have XML / Latin1-UTF-8 conversion support.
PHP is configured with no memory_limit.
Have zlib support; enabling output compression.
Found GD graphics library built-in, image thumbnailing will be enabled if
you enable uploads.
Installation directory: /home/.nacia/biggles/rpgpage.com/wiki
Script URI path: /wiki Warning: $wgProxyKey is insecure
MySQL error 1045: Access denied for user: 'root(a)tofu.dreamhost.com' (Using
password: NO)
Trying regular user... ok.
Connected to database... 4.0.20-log; enabling MySQL 4 enhancementsWarning:
$wgProxyKey is insecure
Database rpgpage exists
Creating tables... done.
Initializing data...
Created sysop account WikiSysop.
Initialising log pages...
Initialising "MediaWiki" namespace...
Creating LocalSettings.php...
Success! Move the LocalSettings.php file into the parent directory, then
follow this link to your wiki.
--------------------------------
It looks like a problem with pear, except...I have RC2 running successfully
(brilliantly) on another of my websites on the same webserver (I have a
number of domains running within the same hosting environment). The
intention was to move the wiki from where it's working to a more appropriate
domain, but I can't get it to work anywhere else, and a fresh, clean install
gives me the exact same result.
PS No one except the web hoster has root access to the database server, but
I didn't need it to get it working the first time. To summarise, all domains
are on one honkin' big web server, all databases are on one honkin' big
database server. As far as I can tell, this is a pretty standard setup for a
commercial hosting environment.
Any thoughts, anyone? I must have clean installed this software (RC2 and
RC3) close to a dozen times now, and only once has it worked...and that one
works brilliantly, as I said.
Cheers

Hello all
I've been using the mediawiki beta 3 for quite some time now and its
working great.
I use an ISP for the webhosting and SQL. Unfortunately, I only have 50
Mbyte available at this host and I was wondering if it's possible to
move the Images folder to another server (IIS ftp server)?
Before I try this I would like to know if anyone have done this before.
Thanks!
