This is a *BETA RELEASE* of MediaWiki 1.3.0, after a couple weeks of
testing and tweaking on Wikipedia. Things mostly work at this point, but
installation and upgrade paths may be awkward or broken on some systems
(we don't stress the regular install/upgrade system on Wikipedia since
we do mass runs of piecemeal updates).
Please read the release notes for details of what's changed and how to
upgrade. (Beta1 was not released as a package, but was available from
CVS only. Don't worry, you didn't miss it!)
The easiest upgrade path from a 1.2 MediaWiki install is to set up the
1.3 wiki in a fresh directory, run the web-based installer, and point it
at the same database. BACK UP YOUR DATABASE FIRST! Upgrading the
database may take a while, or may fail on some systems.

Hi,
I'm hoping that someone here can help me solve a frustrating problem. The
main page of my Wiki no longer recognizes that I'm logged in. All other
pages are fine but when I return to the main page it disallows edits and
shows 'Log in' rather than 'Log out' indicating that it doesn't realize
(only on the main page) that I've logged in.
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me.

Another related question: is there a way to *link* to an external file on a file system, using perhaps UNC (Universal Naming Convention), e.g. [<\\servername\sharename\path\filename> External File] or some such syntax? On some Mediawiki installations other than Wikipedia (e.g. ours) this would be extremely useful to link to non-wiki flat files (e.g. Microsoft Word).

Is there a way to display an external html or php file within a page? Or even
just insert some raw html code? the <nowiki> tag doesn't seem to work for
this.

Hi,
I want to use mediawiki for an internal documentation wiki where it
appears inside a nested frame. Unfortunately, there is always a new
window opened. I looked into the code and found that style/wikibits.js
contains such code:
/ Wikipedia JavaScript support functions
// Un-trap us from framesets
if( window.top != window ) window.top.location = window.location;
But if I comment this line, the behaviour is still the same. Is there
any other place were js code is used to avoid frames?
Thanks for help,
Thommmie

Hi everyone,
I've just downloaded and installed v. 1.2.6 on my Debian/apache server. The
install appears to have proceeded without incident, but I notice that none
of the images are loading on the new wiki's Web pages. The apache error log
shows:
[Tue Jun 1 11:14:11 2004] [error] [client 10.50.10.116] File does not
exist: /usr/share/images/wiki.png
I'm puzzled why apache would be looking in /usr/share for the images when
I've defined the DocumentRoot elsewhere. Any ideas?

Perhaps this isn't the place to ask this, but....
I'm having trouble getting the rewrite rules to work properly. I can access
my site with:
http://my.url.here/index.php/Article_name
Everything works fine with the URL like this, but I want to eliminate the
"index.php" part of the URL.
When I change my LocalSettings.php and .htaccess (following the user guide's
directions on rewrite rules) the URL rewrite happens. In other words, my
browser tries to get "http://my.url.here/Main_page".
BUT, this results in a "Not found" error (404).
Here's my .htaccess file:
-----------------------------------------------------
# Allow wiki articles to start with a period
<Files .*>
Order Deny,Allow
Allow From All
</Files>
# Allow rewriting URLs
RewriteEngine on
# Don't rewrite requests for files in MediaWiki subdirectories,
# MediaWiki PHP files, HTTP error documents, favicon.ico, or robots.txt
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/(stylesheets|images)/
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/(redirect|texvc|index).php
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/error/(40(1|3|4)|500).html
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/favicon.ico
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/robots.txt
# Rewrite http://wiki.domain.tld/article properly, this is the main rule
RewriteRule ^/(.*) /index.php/$1 [L]
-----------------------------------------------------
And here's my LocalSettings.php file:
<?php

# If you make manual changes, please keep track in case you need to
# recreate them later.

This will likely be the last release in the 1.2.x series, as we work on
finishing up 1.3.0...
Changes since 1.2.5:
* Spam blocker ($wgSpamRegex - refuses to save edits that match)
* Updated documentation about $wgWhitelistRead
* Ensure that searchindex table is created as MyISAM
* Interwiki cache timeout (memcached)
* Fix uploads on Windows with magic_quotes_gpc
* Some config fixes for Windows (slashes etc)
* Local interwiki URL redirects
* Fixed obscure deletion problem in squid mode on corrupt entries
* Language files updated to remove more hard-coded "Wikipedia" strings
There are no database format changes.

Thanks to all that helped me.
Sorry if I couldn't write this before. I was out.
Thanks to all that have helped me, with the mistery of
the missing data. The data is still missing, but now I
know that next time I need to act within two days. I
might also look for another host...
In any case thanks,
Pietro
