Corner case: template producing "*" at the beginning, without automatic newline
by Jakub Klinkovský 11 Oct '14

11 Oct '14

MetaWiki mentions the following [1]: > If you have a template/parser function that produces * and you WANT it to be > parsed as wikitext — but without adding a newline, you can write <li>; a <ul> > element will be added by the software. I tried to do that, but the <ul> tag is not added (at least on MW-1.22.12). This template: > <includeonly><li>test</li></includeonly> produces only '<li>test</li>' upon transclusion. What is the intended behaviour here? Have I misunderstood the MetaWiki section? Thanks for your replies, -- jlk [1]: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Newlines_and_spaces#Automatic_newline

Hello, Please join us on the next Wikimedia bug day: **2014-10-08, 14:00–22:00 UTC** [1] in #wikimedia-tech on Freenode IRC.[2] We will be triaging bug reports for the Collection extension (Book tool) in general and PDF export in particular, which were just switched to a new backend (OCG).[3] We have two immediate goals: 1) recover 100 % of the relevant reports from the defunct PediaPress tracker;[4] 2) get a clean list of known PDF issues that the new backend didn't fix. Everyone is welcome to join any time these weeks, and no technical knowledge is needed! It's an easy way to get involved or to give something back. We encourage you to record your activity on the etherpad [4]. This information and more can be found here: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Bug_management/Triage/201410 For more information on triaging in general, check out https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Bug_management/Triage I look forward to seeing you there. Please distribute further by email, talk pages etc. (Collection is used on almost 2 thousands wikis!) Sorry for the crossposting, Nemo [1] Timezone converter: http://everytimezone.com/#2014-10-08,120,5x1 [2] See http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/IRC for more info on IRC chat [3] http://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/2014-July/077867.html [4] https://etherpad.wikimedia.org/BugTriage-Collection

Changing 24 clock to 12 hour clock on wiki page
by Chris Tharp 10 Oct '14

10 Oct '14

Hi Normally I wouldn't ask about a template issue, but I'm looking for something that I think would have already been done somewhere. I'm using a Semantic Inputs time picker inside a Semantic Form, which only allows inputting time in a 24 hour format (commonly called military time in the US) but I need the time displayed on the wiki page to be in the AM/PM 12 hour format. I would think somewhere there's a simple template wiki syntax already created to do this, but I was surprised to find when I Googled that nothing really fit. So before I spend time figuring it out I wanted to make sure I'm not re-inventing the wheel. On another matter, got a message that seemed to be from this list about someone friending me. Hopefully this spam virus is from an individual, and not this list, but anyways thought everyone should be aware of this. The url directs to infoaxe, which from Googling I found was a common virus site. Sent from my iPad

by Grammy Jiang 09 Oct '14

Dear all, Sorry for bothering you. I deloy MediaWiki as a content sharing && management platform in my own company, and in company we use both English and Chinese. In mediawiki very beginning configuration page, English is selected as a default language for this MediaWiki, but there will be some pages wrote in Chinese in this MediaWiki. Now my problem is, "Search" function is only working in English, when I input Chinese in the search box, MediaWiki will return nothing! Does MediaWiki support this kind of function, search in multilingual in the same one MediaWiki? Do i miss any settings? If not, is there any MediaWiki Extension may help? Many thanks! Security fixes for CentralAuth and MobileFrontend extensions
by Chris Steipp 08 Oct '14

08 Oct '14

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA256 A number of security issues in MediaWiki extensions have been fixed. Users of these extensions should update to the latest version. * CentralAuth: Internal review found multiple issues that have been resolved: ** (bug 70469) Special:MergeAccount failed to validate the anti-csrf token in its forms when performing actions. <https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=70469> ** (bug 70468) The internal function to attach multiple local wiki accounts into a single, global account did not re-check that the requesting user owned the "home wiki" for that username, but assumed that user did own this account. This could allow a user to add their local account edits to a global account that they didn't own. <https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=70468> ** (bug 71749) Incomplete fix for bug 70468. The fix wasn't applied to the new feature where accounts were globalized automatically on login. <https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=71749> ** (bug 70620) When globally renaming a user, the antispoof table, which prevents similar looking names from being created, weren't updated. This potentially allowed another user to register an account with a name that looked identical to the username of a user who had been globally renamed. <https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=70620> * MobileFrontend: (bug 70009) Sherif Mansour discovered that POST parameters were being added to links generated by MobileFrontend, which could reveal the user's password after login. <https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=70009> ********************************************************************** Extension:CentralAuth ********************************************************************** Information and Download: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:CentralAuth ********************************************************************** Extension:MobileFrontend ********************************************************************** Information and Download: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:MobileFrontend -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.22 (GNU/Linux) iF4EAREIAAYFAlQ1lJoACgkQ7h9mNGLYTwGdgAD/X7q6WfaBoE2SdKjZeoLE9yvs wg07Fs4kytmmSQDXa4IBAKBgaYuhuRt5j+G5Q9YNdfCCkvlSqnz7heCIX1Ddn5ma =cOb1 -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Documentation needed for downloading skins via Git
by Yaron Koren 07 Oct '14

07 Oct '14

Hi, I upgraded a wiki (via Git) to the latest version, which is 1.25alpha, and discovered that core MediaWiki no longer includes any skins. To get skins via Git, the error message at the top of the wiki helpfully recommended "Cloning one of the mediawiki/skins/* repositories via git [sic] into the skins/ directory of your MediaWiki installation." What was missing, however, was an actual Git command to call. I looked in mediawiki.org and couldn't find anything either. I tried some obvious commands, like: git clone http://git.wikimedia.org/tree/mediawiki%2Fskins/Vector.git ...but those didn't work. Thankfully, someone on IRC suggested the following: git clone https://github.com/wikimedia/mediawiki-skins-Vector ...which did work. But that doesn't seem like the official location; and in any case, this really should be documented somewhere. Can anyone help with this? -Yaron -- WikiWorks · MediaWiki Consulting · http://wikiworks.com

Reset MediaWiki password without email
by Tongjie Li 03 Oct '14

03 Oct '14

hi,all I have a question of how to reset MediaWiki password without email.I post it in stackoverflow, but maybe it is be better asked here. We set up a MediaWiki server for organizing docs. One of our customers forget his password. We need to reset the password for him. In the MediaWiki docs <http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Resetting_passwords> ,there are three ways to do it: First is to reset by email. Since we do not have a mail server,we can't done with it. Second is using changePassword.php, we try it. But we found other account can be changed successfully, but not this account. After the script runs, the new password is still not working. Third is using direct database modification, since our version is 1.22. still other account can be changed, but not this account. After update the database, the user cannot login in with new password. sql as foolow: UPDATEuserSET user_password = CONCAT(':B:somesalt:', MD5(CONCAT('somesalt-', MD5('somepass')))) WHERE user_name = 'someuser'; We have no idea why is this happen? Will be MediaWiki bug? Is there any log that I can check? Is anyone have a idea? thank you very much! -- All the Best! Li Tongjie
