Is there a routine for redirecting the client to a page by name? I
would rather not have to try and build a Location header URL if there
is already such a function.

I was finally able to install the Lucene search engine using the code
from http://svn.wikimedia.org/svnroot/mediawiki/trunk/lucene-search-2.0,
but I have some questions regarding updating indexes. Options for the
importer are listed as:
-n - create a new index (erase the old one if exists)
-s - make index snapshot when finished
-l limit_num - add at most limit_num articles
-o optimize - true/false overrides optimization param from global
settings
-m mergeFactor - overrides param from global settings
-b maxBufDocs - overrides param from global settings
--snapshot <db> - make snapshot only for dbname
Can anyone suggest an ideal way for updating the indexes? I've setup an
hourly cronjob to dump current wiki content, import the dump, and make
an index snapshot when finished (-s). Is this preferred over just
creating a new index each hour?
Thanks in advance,
Trey Valenta
Hi,
I tried to get some help on this issue a couple weeks ago but received no
response, so I am trying again.
The wiki I work on uses the extensions Xfeeds and DynamicPageList. Whenever
they are used on the same page though, there is an error on the
rss_parse.inc folder in magpierss. Please check out one of the
pages<http://datafedwiki.wustl.edu/index.php/Consoles>.
The version of mediawiki that we use is
MediaWiki: 1.9.3
PHP: 5.2.1
MySQL: 5.0.37
Thanks in advance
Mark

Peter Blaise responds: Sorry. You're absolutely right. I speak as if
sitting around a MediaWikil-table, face to face with each of you,
presumptive of our ongoing relationship, giving as good as I get
(snip/snap!), and that's a no-go on the Internet where we can't
recognize our connections to each other except through our
(mis)interpretations of each other's writing. If we met at a local
coffee shop, we'd probably read each other's faces as primary indicators
of intention, and forgive a lot of what we can't seem to tolerate on any
chat group. Does this help:
=8^o
;-)
I read your note above as caring to be all-inclusive here, and have
everyone "just get along", including me. Thanks!
Yes, I a probably appear opinionated, but you're right, I can only speak
for myself. I'm much more open-minded and resourceful than you presume.
Don't confuse assertiveness, even aggressiveness as being adamant or
opinionated (which is "stubborn adherence and unreasonable dismissal of
other's views"). I'm trying to be persuasive, and you probably
experience me as belligerent. Ooops. Time to pull back and rethink!
Lemme look up diplomacy: "skill and tact in dealing with other people".
Hmm ... since I self-sooth regardless of how I'm treated, and forge on,
I forget others may stop and take umbrage. Good point.
"Hey, folks, wouldn't it be nice if ..." comes across as critical, and
you suggest simply asking, "I'd prefer ...". Subtle. I think you're
accusing me of being insensitive to others, asking me to be sensitive to
others, and asking me to be insensitive to the barbs of others. Quite a
dance!
Anyway, to the entire group, now, past, and future, I say:
Please do not take anything I write personally since I do not know
anyone here personally, yet. Please self-sooth, as I do. Vent if you
want to, as I do. I do not want you to go away if we disagree, nor will
I kill-filter anyone here. Know that I WANT you all here, and more.
Invite your friends. If you're not interested in a post, or don't like
a post, scroll on. If you respond, great! And, please consider
accepting responses and responders you don't necessarily (have to) like,
as I do. If you don't want to respond or contribute, I can't stop you.
Life is like that.
Ooops.
=8^o
MY life is like that.
;-)
I apologize 1,000% to anyone who takes offense or umbrage to my writing.
That is not my intention, and I take back anything I wrote, or will
write, anything that is inarticulate and inaccurately represents my
intentions, or is received opposite to my intentions. I'm happy to edit
and try again, and again, and again, until I get it right.

vision of a hard earned climb like the one at

> David wrote: ... you're not the customer,

Peter Blaise responds: Thanks, Dave. I think you've identified one
central problem - nobody seems to know what a "customer" is! Perhaps
they are just doing all this coding for their own entertainment after
all. That explains a lot.
Anyway, my point is: just because this is "open source" does not mean we
have to forget all the advances in the features and benefits of user
interface design, many that were achieved 20 years ago.
I'm trying to inspire customer service; you're trying to explain lack of
customer service. It makes sense, then, that our posts would seem to
argue with each other - we're talking about different things.

Peter Blaise responds: Hi, Frederik. You say 'don't feed the trolls',
AND you put it in an email to the group, eh? Irony?
Google [define:Troll]: "a newsgroup post that is deliberately incorrect,
intended to provoke readers; or a person who makes such a post".
Though I have no problem being provocative, I strive for accuracy. Hey,
that's why I've been looking for a resource map on MediaWiki
installation, config, use, maintenance, and so on - to support my
customers as accurately as possible. I've been building such a resource
as I go along, and others are pitching in long before me, and
subsequently. If you know anything that will help, please share links
to MediaWiki.org where you share it.

I put some on http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual_talk:Interface and
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/User:Peterblaise and more, but I have a
long way to go.
Troll indeed!
Frederiktionary [define:troll]: "anyone Frederik disagrees with".
Thanks.

Like Firefox's built in extension manager
http://opensourcearticles.com/articles/introduction_to_firefox_4 and
it's market-provided extensions
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:1 right? Make your
own http://businesslogs.com/technology/firefox_extension_tutorial.php
Now you're getting the picture of what end user's (including installers,
admins and visitors) expect from their on-screen experience. GREAT
IDEA!
- Peter Blaise
PS - Now, what ideas can we adapt and adopt from Quicken, Word perfect,
Lotus 1-2-3 ... Xteq X-Setup, TweakUI ... But don't let these ideas leak
into the developer chat group, we wouldn't want to spoil their sealed
container with any new (old) ideas, or actual customer expectations,
now, would we?!? ;-)
Hello list,
My search doesn't work as i expect. If i search for "VPN" or "vpn", mediawiki
isn't able to find anything but i have articles with these words (vpn) on it and
i didn't used templates at all.
i am useing mediawiki 1.10.0 and i didn't changed the default settings...
any ideas? do i have to configure something?
thanks and regards

ps: i am sorry for my bad english...
Good question Paul. I wonder how is it done in Wikipedia. Is it one wiki
or several? Which one is more suitable for my needs?
What I am tasked to do should hold matching, but may not be identical,
content in different languages - like what Wikipedia appears to me.

When trying to create a static copy of our wiki using "dumpHTL.php"
(mediawiki 1.6.9), there wasn't any obvious "index.html" file created,
and bringing up another page and trying to go to the "main page"
wouldn't work. Also, our CSS styles (skin) were not used.
Any tricks to getting this working or (perhaps) to get a more recent
version of dumpHTML working?
Thanks,
Ken
