Backup/Restore?

In getting my install ready for testing I now have Zmanda. What files, dirs, etc. should I include to be able to bring MediaWiki back from the dead if I have too? I have only the one box w/an external hard drive and nothing else; *everything* is on one box; not smart but not my call. Thanks

NiceCategoryList2 extension now up

My enhanced version of Kichik's NiceCategoryList extension is now up on mw.org: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:NiceCategoryList2 This extension displays a category listing, including sub-categories, in a number of useful formats. This is intended to allow easier navigation of a wiki's category tree. It implements a new tag, <ncl>, which generates a list of all pages and sub-categories in a given category. The list can display multiple levels of sub-categories, and has several options for the display style. Ian

External vs Relative links question

I have installed a wiki as part of my website tree. I need to refer to pages (eg film clips) outside of the wiki installation but within the domain of the website. Is there a way to do this with relative path syntax eg. [../mydir/somefile] ! I do not want to hard code [http://www.mydomain/com/mydir/somefile] as I will be moving the wiki to a different domain (but with the same directory structure) which I would like to do without having to rename all the links. Any thoughts most welcome! Alex

import db: charset problem

Hi, with mediawiki 1.9.3, I have a big charset problem with german and french special caracters. I begin with a basic question: in the database, a word like "Université" ist stored as "UniversitÃƒÂ©" in "page_title - varchar(255) - latin1_bin". Is that correct ? I suppose no. Why is collation "latin1_bin" but phpmyadmin says "MySQL charset: UTF-8 Unicode (utf8)" ? In another datase of a personal php-site, the same word is stored as "Université" in "varchar(100) latin1_swedish_ci" and this works. In the wiki, all internal links with caracters like "é", "ä" and so on don't work after export/import by phpmyadmin. cheers Klaus

Hi, I would like to insert the following text in all new pages when edited: ---------------- [[Image:name]]   [lien Name of the site]   [[Image:deutschland.png]] [[Image:england.png]] [[Image:france.png]] french comment [[Image: gradient-allemand.gif|center]] french comment --------------- this is to help contributors and to make that all pages have the same structure. Contributors just have to modify this model. I red about templates, but I did not really understand if this does what I want. thanks for help Klaus

Server dead....bring the wiki back?

Hello all, As I was in the process of preparing to move our wiki, the server up and bought the farm. Good news is I had a backup of the database directory (wikidb).....question is I need to restore that directory to a new server. This simply a copy of the original database directory, and it is not a database "dump'. Is there a way for me to resurrect the wiki from this? All the Mediawiki pages seem to cover is "moving" a wiki, not recovering one. I also have a complete copy of the wiki file folder (localsettings.php, images directory, all other directories). Hello, Dear Colleagues! I'm operating the Hebrew Jewish Geneanlogy Wiki (JGeneWiki), right now at: http://genewiki.golan-law.co.il I'd like to change the name of the site (and, accordingly, the main namespace) to a Hebrew one, but writing that name as the value of $wgSitename (and $wgNamespace) in LocalSettings.php - does not work. The system does not recognize the name. what should I do for changing the name of the whole system to a Hebrew one?
