Posting to the list.
Before posting to this list, please read the MediaWiki FAQ[10]. Many common
questions are answered here. You may also search the list archives to see if
your question has been asked before.
Please try to ask your question in a way that enables people to answer you.
Provide all relevant details, explain your problem clearly, etc. You may
wish to read [13], which explains how to ask questions well.
To post to the list, send mail to <mediawiki-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>. This is a
public list, so you should not include confidential information in mails you
send.
When replying to an existing thread, use the "Reply" or "Followup" feature of
your mail client, so that clients that understand threading can sort your
message properly. When quoting other messages, please use the "inline" quoting
style[11], for clarity.
When creating a new thread, do not reply to an existing message and change the
subject. This will confuse peoples' mail readers, and will result in fewer
people reading your mail. Instead, compose a new message for your post.
Messages posted to the list have the "Reply-To" header set to the mailing list,
which means that by default, replies will go to the entire list. If you are
posting a reply which is only interesting to the original poster, and not the
list in general, you should change the reply to only go to that person. This
avoids cluttering the list with irrelevant traffic.

Hi
When I login to my MediaWiki installation I never get automatically
logged-out, even if I never do anything for several hours. So the timeout
value is either very large or infinite, but I haven't been able to find help
on mediawiki.org about how to set the timeout value. I can't find anything
in LocalSettings.php.
I'd like to set the timeout to 15 minutes of inactivity - can anyone help?
Best, Derrick
Good morning,
I have just realized that there is no more a anonymous user page on
**.wikipedia.org. Was this feature removed or only disabled? I can't
find any informations on that on mediawiki.org or bugzilla.wikimedia.org
about that.
Currently we run a mediawiki 1.11.0 in the intranet and want to remove
this tabs too.
Any suggestions how to stay up to date about modifications on the
mediawiki code?
Greetings
Alex

After deleting a slew of spam registrations, the next User ID will be
a high number. Is there a way to reset it to my own value? If so,
where is it stored?

Haw can i post random article on main page?
More detailed request ;)
I'm running a project of building a aviation enciclopedia, for now
just about my contry's aviation. I managed to instal MW 1.6 (limited
by hosting provider's php version) and create several categories and
articles. I'm interesed to create a main page with some preview of 2 -
3 articles.. it may be random articles. I will prefer, after a while,
when there will be enought content to be able to select them
automaticaly by, lets say: in this day 10 years ago or something
similar.
So, where can i find some documentation, examples about this?

I've tested Lucene-search who won't compile (I've checkout a bad
version? = trunk 27705).

Yes, my wish is : when I type this "ipsum", it displays words like
'Loremipsumdolorsitamet', 'Loremipsum', 'ipsumdolor',
'Loremipsumdolor' and of course, 'ipsum' ;)

Thanks for the answer. I'm starting to think I will not found my need
:-/ I'm looking for a full text search engine who is able to display
result when you search on a part of the word, for example :
'wikiped' should answer all pages with 'wikipedia' but it's not the
case atm. The built-in search engine doesn't do the trick, neither
Sphinx. I've tested Lucene-search who won't compile (I've checkout a bad
version? = trunk 27705).
Any ideas who could help me out ?
Thanks!
