hi folks
have setup succesfully MediaWiki 1.11.0 on Sparc OpenSolaris
are there system tests / test cases available for MediaWiki i could run
? (pointer / link / wiki, etc,...)

Jean
Our current wiki makes significant use of subpages (nested to 6 levels
in some places)
We use a hack on article.php so that the displayed name is just the last
bit of the full name ie.
page/sub-page/sub-sub-page/sub-sub-sub-page
is displayed as
sub-sub-sub-page
This hack doesn't work with version 1.11.0 which I am testing, so I was
thinking of attempting to write an extension, so that with any luck it
would work with future releases (this will also remove the last hack I
have on any standard includes)
I'm assuming that I would want to use one of the page rendering parser
hooks one option appears to be ParserAfterTidy, this has been used for
the Edit Section Link transform extension.
Can anyone let me know if this would be an effective approach to this.?
Thanks
John

Hi,
I'm the sysop user for a small intranet wiki. i often visit many pages
many times for testing and that adds to the no. of page views. How can I
tell MW not to count me for calculating page views-either based on my IP
or my username?

Pemissions they are !
Regarding permissions I observe this thing happening:
When I load a new image this goes to the apropriate directory but
having its rights set as it follows:
Case - I upload a new english.jpg image;
MW creates a new folder "c" containing a subfolder "ce" that contains the image.
- folder "c" is having its permissions set to owner lever only (700,
drwx------);
- subfolder "ce" is having its permissions set also to owner level
(700, drwx------);
- the image is having its permissions set to 644 (owner rw, group r,
and public r).
Now, please tell me which is the script or the appropriate setting in
order to land my images with permissions set to 755 ?
I've set all image folder to 755, but as I land another picture this
picture is defaulted to 644 having the permission structure as the
case say.
Even setting manualy the permissions the images are not shown but
after a while (maybe caching issues...)
Is there a place where I could learn the permissions schema of MW.
Thank you for your time and patience.
(MW is 1.11 set on a subdomain)
Dear all,
we have a reasonably cool new MediaWiki enhancement, a demo site, and an
actual online experiment where you can try it. We would like to ask you to
give it a try (no setup or commitments, just clicking around online :-)
In a nutshell, we have built various "intelligent" tools that read a wiki and
try to make sense of it. The tools then come up with facts that they think
are stated in the wiki, and they ask users whether or not these facts are
correct (this is where you come in). We did this on a Wikipedia copy:
http://test.ontoworld.org/
You can find questions at the bottom of each page (in a real wiki one could
restrict them to certain pages). It's like a quiz ;-), and it should be
possible to find the right answers on the related wiki pages. You can
answer "don't know" if you are not sure, or you can just leave some answers
blank. When you answer yes, the confirmed fact will be added to the wiki (we
use Semantic MediaWiki to represent facts). You can see this as a
contribution of your user-login/IP (feel free to get a user account if you
want to track your contributions). The tool will also use your answers to
learn how to better interpret the wiki in the future. So please have a look
and answer a couple of questions.
Do not be dismayed if some suggestions of the tool are nonesense. They are in
random order, and many of them are actually quite good. We will publish
details about how good the tool performed overall, so please give proper
answers ;-) Let us (i.e. Sebastian and me, see header) know if you have any
comments/questions.
Thanks a lot!
Markus
P.S. We will publish all of the associated software soon, but we still need
some testing first. Your contribution is very helpful to us! The
question-extension for MediaWiki will be fairly modular, and could also be
used to ask completely different questions to users, or in combination with
other tools for improving the wiki. Such tools use a web interface, can run
on a different server, and may use arbitrary programming languages.

Hello all,
I'm running an academic wiki (under Mediawiki 1.8.2), and I have a banning
problem: when I ban a user, all users with the same IP (ie. the whole
student's residence) are banned.
On this wiki, new account creation is disabled and only registered users
can view or post , so when I block an account.. it's blocked.
So is there a solution to ban an account without banning the IP associated
with it? Upgrading to the latest version of Mediawiki? Changing the
settings? Patching?
It tried the various existing options, to no avail, and the doc on this
matter is not entirely clear on IP/vs. account ban

Thanks for your help!

I am trying to import a few thousand pages that include maps using the
Google Maps extension.
The text is in the format as below:
<googlemap lat="36.3015" lon="-76.21976" type="map" zoom="11" width="700"
height="600">
36.3214,-76.2134, Click to see [[some text]] page
36.9876,-76.1234, Click to see [[some text]] page
</googlemap>
The message I get is pretty much identical whether I use importDump.php or
Special:Import and is:
XML import Failure at line 40, col 42 (byte 1725; ³
36.3214,-76²):Attribute redefined
Anyone able to shed any light on this?
Many thanks,
Paul
Dear Mr. Platonides,
I thank you for your time and if it is possible please enlighten further
more my situation.
I've added $wgHashedUploadDirectory = true; to my LocalSettings.php and I
also put a link to a fresh image named english.jpg in the main page (
wiki.kosson.ro)
the image as I checked was uploaded here: /images/3/32/english.jpg
Still I don't have any positive feedback from media wiki. I understand
firmly that this is a matter of wrong path but with my limited knowledge it
seems that I cannot solve it.
Please shed some light and bear with me.
I'll put LocalSettings to take a peek
