We'll be moving a 1.6.3 wiki to a new database. We also need to update
to 1.9, as the new server runs only php 5. The documentation I've seen
deals with either copying a wiki (unchanged) to a new server, or with
upgrading in-place. Given our scenario, I'm wondering if it would be
better to do both at the same time.
In particular, if I do a mysqldump of the old wiki, will that import OK
into the 1.9 wiki? Or has the db table structure changed enough to
prevent this? And if so, is there an easy way around it?
Copying images should be easy enough (I'm guessing here that the image
data directory structure won't need to be changed in the new wiki), and
likewise I think that transferring the mods to PHP files from old to new
should be OK. Skins I'll worry about when we get to that point. Right
now, I'm mostly concerned about getting the db transferred.
Also, is there anywhere that lists all of the new features that have
been added from version to version? I know most projects have a 'version
history' page, but I haven't stumbled across it in my Google searches yet...
Thanks,
Ken
On the Special:Statistics page there seems to be an error in the stats
it is showing, and I was curious as where it might be getting the
incorrect value from. Our wiki is fairly new, so the "Legitimate" page
count is more likely correct:
"There are 1,575 total pages in the database. This includes "talk"
pages, pages about GeCWiki, minimal "stub" pages, redirects, and others
that probably don't qualify as content pages. Excluding those, there are
87 pages that are probably legitimate content pages."
Where is it pulling the "1,575 total pages" data from? There is no way
that is correct.
Thanks,
Dave

I want a template that can be used as follows:
{{TBD}}: some kind of message
the result of the above two will be:
TBD: some kind of message
i want the 'TBD' to be highlighted as well
so this is my attempt:
<span style="background: #ffff00">TBD</span>[[Category:TBD]]
the problem is, that when using it, i get this result:
TBD
some kind of message
apparently, the colon character is treated as if it is at the beginning of the line.
how can i fix this?
thanks,
ittay

Hello All,
How to delete a large number of wiki pages ? I am not sure if removing them
from wk_page table is enough.
I would appreciate any help.
Thanks

I've moved to 1.6.latest and installed everything, got the message on
screen allowing me to set it as a stable version but then get an error
when access special:stableversion, and various inconsistent bits
I'm wondering about you query over ParserBeforeInternalParse hook ?
How can I check if it's there and if not what do I need to add

We have recently installed mediawiki 1.9 and I can't seem to get UNC paths

Hello All,
I am trying to use the SmoothGallery extension with templates and I am
having some problems with it.
I have a template Gallery like
<sgallery someparams>
{{{1}}}
</sgallery>
I want to include the template something like this in other pages
{{ Gallery | {{:images}} }}
where images is a wiki page with just have a list of images like
,Image1.jpg,Image2.jpg
I even tried including the list directly as an argument, which doesnt work
either.
If I include the list in the template, then things work fine.
Is this not the right way to do it ? Does the extensions get parsed before
the embedded pages or something.
I would appreciate any kind of help.
Thanks

Hi all,
As wikiSysop, I would like to be alerted when new users are created. Which
way would be the easiest?
1. Is it possible to adjust the settings such email confirmation of a
new user gets
CC-ed to the wikiSysop?
2. Can wikiSysop add the Special:User_list to their watch list?
3. Other options?
Thanks,
Kasper
