No, it seems my problem is that our corporate proxy server isn't
honoring requests from the RSS extension (or that the extension isn't
even trying to use the proxy in the first place) when it tries to pull
in an external feed (say a CNN rss feed for example). It is fine with
any internal feeds, as it doesn't have to make a proxy request.
My question was whether there was a way that MediaWiki (or the
extenstion, etc) to use the proxy server? So is there a way to have the
RSS feed go "hey this is an external request, go through the proxy".

issues
What do you mean by "getting the wiki to see an external RSS source"?
Do you mean that external RSS readers can't see your wiki's feed?
MediaWiki
doesn't read external sources... but if you want an external feed
reader (e.g. Google or Yahoo) to see your wiki, then you need an
intermediate page that can be seen outside your intranet BUT can also
read your intranet.
What we did is create a PUSH script that sends the RSS text to a server
that sits in a DMZ. That server then has a URL that external feed
readers can use to retrieve that text. The server in the DMZ can't read
the RSS directly
because of the DMZ - although we could certainly open the firewall to
allow it. However, we decided it was far safer to prevent a server in
the DMZ from accessing the intranet, although it is open the other way
around (intranet servers can access the DMZ server).

We have just implemented another wiki site internally and the users are very
excited to begin using it.
One problem has reared its head in a classroom training setting. When the
instructor has everyone 'go to page <insert page name>' a few, 2-5 out of
20, will get an error:
Database error
A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the
sfotware. The last attempted database query was:
(SQL query hidden)
from within function "MediaWikiBagOStuff::_doquery". MySQL returned error
"1213: Deadlock found when trying to get lock; try restarting transaction
(hostname)".
I have tried tracking down the problem by turning on debug and dumping to
log file, (I can supply it if needed, but its large). To my untrained eye,
it looked like a problem trying to obtain a lock for a cache/page access
time update to the database. I turned caching off with "$wgMainCacheType =
CACHE_NONE;".
The error changed to a 1205 MySQL error " Lock wait timeout exceeded;" and
seemed to happen more often.
Anyone have any ideas how to cure this? is there a MySQL setting I need to
change?
TIA
Andy
No one?

Subject: PHPBB/Users Integration
Hello.
It seems that the extension "PHPBB/Users Integration", which integrates the users of mediawiki with phpBB, doesn't work with Mediawiki 1.9.0. It used to work fine with MW 1.8.2.
Any ideas?
Hi.
In earlier versions of Mediawiki ive got modification which prevented
displaying title header on Main Page. Unfortunately after update to 1.9rc2
this stopped working.
Now im looking for similar hack, working on 1.9, which prevents from
displaying title header on Main Page and if it is possible also some other
pages.
Best regards,
Dinth
Hello everyone,
A few of my colleagues are working on a user manual for a software
application, and they agree that a wiki might be very beneficial for
their collaborative effort.
However, there is one major concern:
After composing the text and inserting screenshots, there would have to
be some "post-processing"; e.g. add a nice-looking cover page, table of
contents, headers and footers for each page etc. Nothing too fancy, just
basic stuff that can be done in any word processor (i.e. Microsoft Word
or OpenOffice.org Writer).
I know that wiki pages can be exported as XML, but converting those to
OpenDocument, for example, is certainly beyond our capabilities.
>From what I've read so far, it seems that no such conversion tools are
available yet.
Are there any plans for this to be added in the foreseeable future?
Because without that capability, I don't see a way to move projects like
this to the wiki environment.

Hello
I looked everywhere on the server and in the admin mode,
but i cannot find anywhere how to remove or add items from
the navigation menu. I read the Help files and it points me to the SideBar
file but i cannot find it.
Can anybody tell me step by step how to do it? It will probably help me
to understand the way the help file is to be used as well!
Thanks,

Windows Live Spaces is here! It’s easy to create your own personal Web site.

Hello All,
I have a simple SpecialPage that takes in a text value from a form and
creates a page after appending a random number to the submitted name. The
problem I am seeing is that 2 pages are created with separate random numbers
even though I am calling it only once. I am not able to figure out why. Here
is my function and section of calling code.
$newName = $inputName. rand(1111,9999);
$this->createPage($newName);
function createPage($name) {
$tmp = <<<OUT
Some wikitext
OUT;
$title = Title::makeTitle(NS_MAIN, $name);
$article = new Article( $title );
if ($article->exists()) {
return "$name exists";
}
else {
$article->doEdit( $tmp, $name, EDIT_NEW );
return "created $name";
}
}
What am I missing here. The code works fine if I just use the inputName.
I would appreciate any help.
Thanks

Thanks to the helpful comment of another group user, I tried placing the
following in the "main.css" file of the monobook skin folder:
#privacy { display: none; }
My skin is definitely set to monobook, and my browser is Firefox 1.5.0.4
on OS X. From viewing the page source and reading my CSS book, I've
concluded that this should indeed hide the "display" link--but it
doesn't. Anyone know what might be going wrong?
Thanks,
Ken
