Bonjour Je suis la doctoresse Jacqueline Bisset. Je travaille pour le département de science moléculaire (Arrondissements biologiques département universitaire). J'ai juste parlé, au sujet de mon problème, avec le responsable du mediawiki France. I have a problem with MediaWiki 1.7.1. I need to install wiki for a project related Quebec anglo/french student meetings http://www.mels.gouv.qc.ca/ http://www.students.gov/ - http://www.education.gouv.fr/ . I' have installed Mediawiki 1.7.1 in a site. I had not any error. during the installation process. I use PHP 5. This is the result : Found database drivers for: MySQL PHP server API is apache2handler; ok, using pretty URLs (index.php/Page_Title) Have XML / Latin1-UTF-8 conversion support. PHP's memory_limit is 512M. If this is too low, installation may fail! Have zlib support; enabling output compression. Neither Turck MMCache nor eAccelerator nor APC are installed, can't use object caching functions GNU diff3 not found. Found GD graphics library built-in, image thumbnailing will be enabled if you enable uploads. Installation directory: /home/httpd/vhosts/sciencemoleculaire.studentblog.org/httpdocs/angleterre Script URI path: /angleterre Environment checked. You can install MediaWiki. Warning: $wgSecretKey key is insecure, generated with mt_rand(). Consider changing it manually. Generating configuration file... Database type: MySQL Loading class: DatabaseMysql I moved the file LocalSettings.php in the parent directory. So it seems that you are right and the problem is in new "language files". Where are these files residing? Can I just overwrite them with ones I got in the backup? Can you check to see in the database if the page data is still there? If positively, it might just be a matter of old links being loaded from the language files again, replacing some of your customization. If negative, something worse may have happened - and you may need to manually SQL in the missing data to the database. I did not mean to imply that such things are impossible under Windows or Linux, but was merely pointing out how simple it was to check RSS feeds in general, mentioning specifics for the platform I am most familiar with. When all you have is a hammer, all the world looks like a nail. I would suggest that you revisit the RSS vs email issue with an open mind. RSS was designed for the very sort of thing that MediaWiki uses it for, whereas insisting on hacking MediaWiki to use an inappropriate update mechanism (in terms of resource usage and protocol specificity) will probably not get too much sympathy here. :::: Under capitalism, man exploits man. Renameuser extension and MediaWiki 1.7.1?

I have been running MW 1.5.8, and now that it's time to upgrade, I've been looking for newer versions of the extensions we use. One useful one in particular is Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason's "renameuser" extension. I tried to get the latest version from http://svn.wikimedia.org/viewvc/mediawiki/trunk/extensions/Renameuser/, but aside from the fact that it still seems to explicity require MW 1.5b2, the latest updates seem to have broken it badly. I see that Wikipedia is running some version of this extension. How can I find out what version they are running, and am I missing any obvious (or non-obvious) way to know whether an extension like this is still being maintained? Many thanks, Hínandil

Gis and wiki 1.7.1

I use the Gis-extension: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Gis Today I upgraded to Mediawiki 1.7.1. Now I always get the error Fatal error: Call to undefined method Parser::extracttags() in httpdocs/extensions/gis/database.php on line 61. wenn i want to change a page. Without the extension it works fine. Is there somewhere an upgrade of this extension? N Jansen

Upgrade problem with 1.7.1

Hello, Running PHP 4.3.9 and MySQL 4.1.20. I suspect this error is due to my PHP version but I can't verify it. I looked around on the Mediawiki site but didn't find an answer. I'm trying to run the ./maintenance/update.php script and I get the following error: PHP Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or '}' in /root/downloads/mediawiki-1.7.1/includes/Exception.php on line 114 Content-type: text/html X-Powered-By: PHP/4.3.9 I looked at line 114 and it didn't appear to have any typos or mistakes (I didn't check much of the other parts of the file though). Is it my PHP version or possibly something else? Thanks, Chris.

MediWiki 1.7.1 requires PHP 5.
