Did you try 1.8.1?
-Justin
Yes, I did, Thanks Chris
When I try to ugrade from 1.7.1 to 1.8 I get the following error and the
install stops. I updated php and mysql to the latest versions, first. I'm
running Windows XP
INDEX ipb_expiry (ipb_expiry)
) TYPE=InnoDB
" failed with error code "BLOB/TEXT column 'ipb_address' can't have a
default va lue (localhost)".

The thread "Hotlinking images from wikipedia ?" was specially interesting for
me.
I'm trying to keep a local mirror of wikipedia (it is the second most accessed
website from my faculty, second only to google). My idea was/is to download
and insert the databases (done), and to download and keep a local cache of
the images on demand. (and then find a way to update both the images and the
databases).
Is there an easy way to download the images when they are not found locally?
I'm willing to start poking at the code if it is not already done, but I'd
prefer to diverge as little as possible from the original mediawiki code.
Cheers,

In Firefox there is a search box which has things like Google, Ebay,
Wikipedia and more...
Is there a way to add another media-wiki instance to Firefox? Say a
corporate wiki installation, the gentoo wiki or your other favorite
wiki?
This may be more appropriate for a Firefox mailing list but I figured
someone here may know how to do it.

Hi all
The time has come for me to implement a calendar into my wiki .... but i'm
wondering what sort of options I've got.
There's this nifty extension that would be really easy to get up and running
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Cdamian/calendar (demo here:
http://krass.com/wiki/Sandbox/Calendar)
...as all it does it make all the day links for you so you can click and
edit at will ........, simple, but would work
But then there's the insanity of what Wikipedia has ........... dates and
months and stuff all in there with events --- how do they do it?
Some quick digging will lead you to find that their month grids
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/September are no more than a template,
generated with the help of a bot
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:SeptemberCalendar2006Source) --- but
can one be expected to sit down and manually enter all that stuff? I mean,
all the events and stuff too? Are they using some extra db table I don't
know about?
I'm pretty much sold on using Cdamian's extension to get me going:
pros: simple to add things to a day, since just standard blank articles
cons:might be too simplistic for entries -- no time data etc....can't look
up based on criteria
And what about iCal format? I see this extension
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Sbrunner/SpecialICalendar.php but
haven't a clue what exactly it will do (anyone running it?) -- or if adding
entries in the iCal format will be too cryptic for my users
Holy long post I know!
Anyone with any suggestions or ideas -- please post

Sujet: [opensuse-doc] [ANN] Susedoc XML Build Environment

Hi,
we like to announce the alpha release of "susedoc", a
toolkit the
SUSE doc team develops and uses to build the SUSE
documentation,
released under the GPL. The RPM package contains makefiles and
stylesheets for HTML, XSL-FO and Wiki. See
10.0

10.1
http://software.opensuse.org/download/home:/thomas-schraitle/SUSE_Linux_10.…
1. Features
-----------------------------------------------
* Validates your XML sources
* Contains Python script to create a working sandbox with all
necessary files.
* Creates HTML, PDF and Wiki with a simple make command
* Supports handling of conditional text in XML (aka "profiling")
* Supports XEP, FOP planned
2. Requirements
-----------------------------------------------
* libxml2, libxslt
* inkscape
* transfig
* ImageMagick
* java
* xml-commons-resolver
* docbook-xsl-stylesheets
* svg-dtd
* freefont
* fop or xep
3. Restrictions
-----------------------------------------------
* At the moment you can not build PDFs with our customized
stylesheets
due to restrictions on the FOP side (we use XEP.).
However, it is
possible to use the original DocBook XSLT stylesheets.
* Wiki stylesheets are a "work in progress". Small chapters or
articles should work but whole books needs more work.
* Documentation can be improved. ;)
4. Quickstart
-----------------------------------------------
With the help of susedoc-new.py after installation you can
create
a "Hello World" sandbox where you can play with, for example:
$ susedoc-new.py -d docbook_44
This creates a directory "susedoc-xmltest" where you can
find all the
needed files. To create HTML, run "make html". For more
information,
see "susedoc-xmltest/README" or use "make help".
For the next weeks I am on vacation. If you have questions
please
contact Frank Sundermeyer. :)
Have fun!
Tom

Hi all
I'm using custom hooks to make modifications on an additional custom
database when specific events occur (like ArticleInsertComplete). The
database queries are executed through mediawiki's database methods.
But it seems that MediaWiki does change the execution order of select and
update queries in the background. For example I can't insert a new entry
into my database or make a modification, and then select this entry
afterwards.
Is there a way to control the execution order of queries (for example that
they are executed directly without caching)?
I also tried to implement my database operations using PHPs built-in mysql
functions, but then I have the problem that mediawiki can't connect to the
database (errors like "Unable to free MySQL result", etc.).
Does anyone have any ideas for a workaround?
Thanks in advance
Is it possible to run some scripts on actions on MW? For example I have
created template {{Welcome|username}}. Until now I'm adding it manualy to the
discussion page of each new user (as there are necessary information how to
start using our MW, links to important user specific pages etc.).
But as the number of our potencial MW users is around one thousand, I would
like to automate the task and add the welcome template to the users
discussion page automaticaly whenever the new user registrates himself. Does
anybody know the solution?
Thanks
Jakub
