Note that PHP 5 is not compiled with MySQL support. You need to
specifically enable the MySQL extension module. This is a simple thing
to do; just uncomment the relevant lines in PHP.ini and check the
extensions path.
MySQLi is something completely different.

Two things....
1. Uncommented line
2. Never try to install over RDC...it doesn't work. Went to the data center
and had the wiki running in under 5 minutes. *duh*
Warning: dl() [function.dl]: Not supported in multithreaded Web servers -

Could not load MySQL driver! Please compile php --with-mysql or install the
mysql.so module.
I have MySQL and PHP running on this box already;
Apache 2.0
PHP 5.0.5
MySQL 4.1.14
Can someone give me shove in the right direction here? Thanks!
I enabled the proper modules and still no joy. I have read all of the
installation docs, including the windblows instructions (I am not using
these servers by choice, that's for sure). Sinceit is PHP5 does MediaWiki
try to reference the mysqli functions?
Hi all,
A few weeks ago I was asked to set up a wiki, I choose mediawiki (1.5.3 was
the stable version these days) as the software. As I worked on the
project customers asked me for some modifications. I want to share
those with the comunity. Currently the patch is for version 1.5.3, but
if you think features are worthy I can create a patch for version
1.5.6 (current stable).
The patch is avalaible in
http://www.chasqui.cu/staff/manu/2006/mediawiki/mediawiki-1.5.3-manu.bz2
This a sumary of features:
1. Added a initTemplate(&$tpl) method in SinkTemplate in order to
give a chance to subclases to init QuickTemplates in several ways.
2. Added 2 global vars to keep category pages from displaying the
header "Articles in category XXX" and no articles at all.
3. Added a 'talk' permission to allow wiki admins to restrict
anonymous access to pages in NS_TALK namespace.
4. Added 1 global var to control how firstChar() should behave in
order to create index entries in category page's listings. This, I
think, should be done other way, please read the comments in the
patch.
Files modified:
1. CategoryPage.php
2. DefaultSettings.php (in order to set the introduced permission and
global vars to current default values, this is, as if they never
existed)
3. SkinTemplate.php
4. Title.php (permissions are granted here)
5. Language.php and LanguageUtf8.php (firstChar mod, see above)
6. LanguageEs.php (disposable)
I would like to hear comments.
Regards,
Manuel.
I am not able to upload large windows media video (wmv) files to a MediaWiki
1.5.5 running on php 4.3.10-16 and MySQL 4.0.24_Debian-10sarge1-log.
In testing, I am able to upload small wmv files (<3meg).
When I try with large ones, I either (a) the page waits for a few minutes
(while status bar in IE slowly grows) and then appears to refresh with no
error (and no file uploaded) or (b) IE shows "this page cannot be displayed'
The uploads directory is writable.
I can upload other images, mp3 files (tested successfully 10 meg), swf or
fla flash files (tested >7megs) and these appear perfectly.
I've tried increasing the php.ini settings: memory_limit = 16M;
upload_max_filesize = 12M; post_max_size = 12M; I have also increased the
time allowed for scripts to run and load.
I added to LocalSettings.php:
$wgFileExtensions = array('gif', .. The others already there. 'wmv');
$wgVerifyMimeType = false;
When I look at a small wmv (<3meg) file I successfully uploaded, the mime
type is text/plain (which seems odd, mp3 files are properly identified)
Any ideas? Could it be the codec I used to encode the wmv file? (I used
camtasia - this is for video based training in our internal company wiki).
Thanks!

I would like to change the alternate text for the edit
icon to Chinese.
For example, when move the curser over the image icon
in the editing page, the text is Embedded image.
I would like to change the Embedded Image to some
other text.
Can someone tell me where to change.
thanks

Dear friends of Mediawiki-extensions
I have written an extension to produce and display 2- and 3-dimensional
plots, using the plotting program Gnuplot.
Feel free to install and use this extension in your mediawiki instance.
See http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Gnuplot.
For problems and comments please use the discussion page.

Works in 1.5.4, at least.
BTW: this is WONDERFUL for documenting templates! I used to document
templates on the Talk page, but this made it harder for occasional
users to figure out. Here's a couple examples:
