Hi! The last time I have problems with linkspam :(
Can you tell me how to reduce this or how it can be possible that users
have to confirm their registration always with an e-mail? Thanks, Flo
I was running MediaWiki 1.4.4 on MySQL 4.1. When I upgraded MySQL to 5.0,
any attempt to use the Wiki resulted in this error:
Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /data/www/localhost/htdocs/wiki/includes/ObjectCache.php on line 409
I tried deleting the rows in the objectcache and querycache tables, with no
luck.
I thought I'd try to upgrade to 1.5.6. No luck - different error:
MediaWiki 1.5.6 installation
Please include all of the lines below when reporting installation problems.

* Have zlib support; enabling output compression.
* Neither Turck MMCache nor eAccelerator are installed, can't use object caching functions
* Found GNU diff3: /usr/bin/diff3.

* Found GD graphics library built-in.
* Installation directory: /data/www/localhost/htdocs/wiki
* Script URI path: /wiki
* Connecting to wikidb on localhost as root...success.
* Connected to 5.0.18; using enhancements for mySQL 4.
* Database wikidb exists
* There are already MediaWiki tables in this database. Checking if updates are needed...
* Granting user permissions...
Query "GRANT DELETE,INSERT,SELECT,UPDATE ON `wikidb`.* TO 'wikiuser'@'%' IDENTIFIED BY 'mypassword'" failed with error code "Can't find any matching row in the user table".
Any suggestions???

Zen: Minus one degrees of separation.
Create a user in the normal manner, and then add two rows in the
user_groups table; the ug_user field should be set to the ID of the
new user (probably 1), while the ug_group values should be "sysop" and
"bureaucrat" respectively.

My mediawiki installation succeeded (after several broken attempts). However
There is no user by the name "WikiSysop".
What can I do? Do I have to re-install? Can I grant sysop permissions in some
manner? Can I simply create a user??

I installed mediawiki 1.5.6 and 1.4.14. In the both wikis I had the
same problem:
When a logged member edit and save a page, He gets the following error
message, "Note: Remember that this is only a preview, and has not yet
been saved!". But a anonymous users can edit and save the pages
normally.
Thanks

Hi,
some problem I was stating about a week ago already. I just give it
another try and hope for help:
Like in the portal-box skeleton template on mediawiki, I'd like to
have one template that opens a DIV container and a second one that
closes the DIV container. Between the two template calls I could place
my content. The DIV container can draw a nice portlet-like border
around the content then...
Since this is done exactly that way at mediawiki page and wikipedia, I
don't understand why it doesn't work for my installations (1.5.5
each).
The problem is that for every template, mediawiki closes tags that
left open. The second template (only the closing DIV) is escaped and
appears as clear text.
Does anyone know how to switch off this feature in case it is one?
Thanks a lot, Gerrit
Hi John
If I am not terribly wrong, your code is it.
In HTML it is NOT allowed to use Tags like this:
<TagA>
<TagB>
</TagA>
</TagB>
You have to end your Tags recursively, that means, you have to do it like this:
<TagA>
<TagB>
</TagB>
</TagA>

No, they will not work inside the <html></html> tags if you are allowing raw
html to be used. However, all you have to do is end the html tag and
restart it after the wiki tag. Any open html tags from before can be
continued afterwards.
Example:
Dfadfasdfadfasdfasdf
[[Link|this is a wiki link]]
<html>
<a href="foo.com/bar.html">adsfadf</a>
<div id="whatnot">
</html>
[[another|another wiki link inside an html tag]]
<html>
</div>
</html>

I tried installing the latest version of Media Wiki on my site which is
using MySQL 4.0.22-standard, PHP 4.3.10 and Apache 1.3.33 (Unix). I'm
getting an error regarding the SQL when installing:
---------------------------------
PHP 4.3.10: ok
Warning: PHP's register_globals option is enabled. MediaWiki will work
correctly, but this setting increases your exposure to potential security
vulnerabilities in PHP-based software running on your server. You should
disable it if you are able.
PHP server API is apache; ok, using pretty URLs (index.php/Page_Title)
Have XML / Latin1-UTF-8 conversion support.
PHP is configured with no memory_limit.
Have zlib support; enabling output compression.
Neither Turck MMCache nor eAccelerator are installed, can't use object
caching functions
Found GNU diff3: /usr/bin/diff3.
Found ImageMagick: /usr/bin/convert; image thumbnailing will be enabled if
you enable uploads.
Found GD graphics library built-in.
Installation directory: /home/mysite/public_html
Script URI path:

MySQL 4.1server and have problems connecting to the database, see
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/old-client.html for help.
Trying to connect to MySQL on localhost as root...
MySQL error 1045: Access denied for user: 'root@localhost' (Using password:

Trying regular user... ok.
Connected to 4.0.22-standard; enabling MySQL 4 enhancements
Error selecting database mysite_wikidb: 1044 Access denied for user:
'mysite_wikiuse@localhost' to database 'mysite_wikidb'
----------------
I have no idea what to do to get this to work on my site with the version of
MySQL that is running. Do I need to use a different version of Media Wiki?
Or is there something I can do to make this work?
