Our MediaWiki install is sitting on an Apache server that also handles other traffic and in particular has content handlers in place. So when someone recently tried to create a artiucle name TableSamples.jsp, they succeeded in creating the page but when they tried to view the page from the page that links to [[TableSamples.jsp]], the web server saw the .jsp URL and tried to run it as a JSP file rather than as a mediawiki file and returned a 404. The user was confused and thought it was a mediawiki problem.
Is there some hook or configuration setting I can use to restrict article names to prevent this kind of error?

Hi,
I am running mediawiki 1.5.2 on Fedora core 4.
I keep getting the upload image error, such as
cannot copy /tmp/phpVL2K3M to
/var/www/wiki/images/8/80/Wikitoolbar.gif
I change the permission of the images directory to the
following
drw-rw-rw- 2 apache apache 4096 Nov 9 16:27 images
I have the followings in the LocalSettings.php
$wgEnableUploads = true;
$wgUseImageResize = true;
$wgUseImageMagick = true;
$wgImageMagickConvertCommand = "/usr/bin/convert";
$wgVerifyMimeType = false;
Any suggestions?
Thanks
jc

Isn't it normal to make directories executable as well as readable? I
think it only affects listing the contents but it could cause a problem
with copying.
>From memory I think the command is:
chmod 777 images

Hi All,
For security reason, I donot want to show users my
Special:Allmessages
My idea is to redirect all request to
Special:Allmessages to the main page
How to do that and after redirect, how could I (the
admin) to access the Special:Allmessages
Thanks
jc

http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Starting_a_new_page provides one option for 'starting a page'. My question is: how does one create a (start page) box llike this on my own wiki? I copied & pasted the code from the example but this doesn't seem to work.

All,
I'm trying to get media wiki to force all users to log in. I've
whitelisted the user login page, which redirects the user to an error
page with a link to the specialuserlogin. However, I'd like the user to
be presented with the log-in page directly. I have been unable to
figure out how to do this and would appreicate some assistance.
thx,
Eric

I am running MediaWiki 1.5.1 on www.drumcorpswiki.com and over the last
two weeks or so, I've begun having major spam problems. It seems
someone (a bot possibly?) is creating a user account and then editing
many pages to include spam link and/or a hidden div section. Each time,
I have to block the user and rollback all of the changes. Has there
been a fix to the problem? Please see the recent changes on the site to
get an idea of what I've been up against.
Thanks for any assistance anyone may provide,
Harlan Landes
