hi
recently i set up mediawiki 1.3.9. my problem is: when the machine is
freshly booted the wiki run with acceptable speed, but after a couple of
minutes it's getting slower and slower. the page generation time is okay
aprox. 1 sec., depending on the page. i'm using rewriting rules, but no
turck or similar (yet). the wiki is on a local server (p3 1ghz, 128mb)
and not in the internet, so it should not be overloaded.
what is decelerating my wiki?
thanks, paul

How will I be able to turn off rel="nofollow" just for a single specific link?

Hello Brion,

Does the win32 convert.exe accept path names with a mix of backslashes
and forward slashes?
When using the win cmd shell, convert.exe has no trouble with the mix of \ and /

I have a Media Wiki site set up http://testwiki.smartcampaigns.com
MediaWiki (http://wikipedia.sf.net/): 1.3.9
PHP (http://www.php.net/): 4.3.10 (cgi)
MySQL (http://www.mysql.com/): 4.0.22-standard
I have interwiki working, sort of. I have the 108 entries from the
interwiki.sql script loaded and at least checking a few of them out, they
all seem to be working.
So, I thought, I should be able to simply add another record to the table
and it should work as well, right?
So I went into SQL and executed:
insert into interwiki values ("id", "http://public.2idi.com/=$1", 0);
When I check the table, sure enough, the row is in there.
However, when I attempt to use an interwiki link
e.g.
[[id:Aldon.Hynes]]
nothing shows up.
(Take a look at
http://testwiki.smartcampaigns.com/index.php?title=Aldon_Hynes ) for an
example. The link to AbbeNormal comes in okay, but the link to id doesn't
come in at all.
My guess is that I am missing a step, but I haven't been able to figure it
out. Can anyone tell me what I'm missing?

Hello,
At the moment i am buiding a intranet using an instance of the MediaWiki.
There are a few issues I cannot resolve though. Any help would be
appreciated!
ImageMagic:
I cannot get te resizing of Images to work. I have done the following:
1)Installed a version of ImageMagic in directory C:\Program
Files\ImageMagick-6.1.8-Q8 (using ImageMagick-6.1.8-Q8-windows-static.exe);
The environment variable PATH is set correctly
2)Made a copy of convert.exe (ImageMagic) to c:\ (To avoid problems with
the space in "Program Files" in the path to the original convert.exe);
C:\convert.exe works from the command shell, I checked that.
3)Placed a copy of php_imagick.dll in C:\EasyPHP\php\extensions
4) added extension=php_imagick.dll to php.ini in the C:\Windows
directory
5)Placed a copy of ImageMagickObject.dll in the C:\WINDOWS\system32
directory
6) Changed LocalSettings.php to:
<snip>
## To enable image uploads, make sure the 'images' directory
## is writable, then uncomment this:
$wgDisableUploads = false;
$wgUseImageResize = true;
$wgUseImageMagick = true;
$wgImageMagickConvertCommand = "C:\convert.exe";
</snip>
When I Upload an Image (BenR.jpg 1022 x 1363 pixels, deliberatly big in
size) through the [upload] link of the wiki, the image itself loads
correctly, but the resized one (to fit on the image's info page) does
not appear. I get a "broken picture" frame from my browser instead, as
well as 2 errors rendered into the HTML of the page:
<snip>

c:\easyphp\www\mediawiki/images/thumb/9/92/450px-BenR.jpg (errno=2 - No

such file or directory in
<b>c:\easyphp\www\mediawiki\includes\Image.php</b> on line <b>533</b><br />
</snip>
When cleaned they read:
Warning: stat(): Stat failed for
c:\easyphp\www\mediawiki/images/thumb/9/92/450px-BenR.jpg (errno=2 - No
such file or directory) in c:\easyphp\www\mediawiki\includes\Image.php

This left me at a loss as to what is going on. The error log of Apache
shows another strange thing (apart from the error from convert.exe or is
it PHP's?)
<snip>

I'm guessing that the Apache-error "invalid Filename" induces some kind
of illegal filename to begin with. When that is offered to convert.exe
or to convert.exe via PHP things go wrong.
-- The documentation on ImageMagic is scarce on the Internet
-- I am using the wiki in the Dutch (nl) language, hence the 'speciaal:'
en 'afbeelding:' in the Apache log. 'Afbeelding:' meaning 'Image', and
'speciaal', well I'm not sure ;-)
-- I do not have a trailing slash in my DocumentRoot
I am using
>MediaWIki mediawiki-1.4beta3
>easyphp1-7 (with apache 1.3.27, PHP 4.3.3. Mysql 4.0.15, phpadmin 2.5.3)
> Windows XP (SP2) Home edition 1GB RAM
I would be very gratefull for any answers or suggestions!

Hi,
Testing the IBServer installation + mediawiki.
Found out that thumbnails do not work. Images won't resize.
Sure, i'm using not very recent software, but i don't think its relevant.
Are there some settings to change? Can anyone help me out?

Hello,
i want to disable anonymous editing and new accounts registrations on my
wiki and i put these lines into the LocalSettings.php file:
$wgWhitelistEdit = true;
$wgWhitelistAccount = array ( 'user' => 0, 'sysop' => 1, 'developer' => 1 );
but i still can create new account or edit a page without logging in
is it possible to fix it?
i'm using mediawiki 1.4beta5 (i've tried it also on the 1.3.9 version)
thanks
Hey Matthias, thanks for this info - I'd assumed this was a mediawiki issue
- not just a simple mysql fix!
For others interested, this is what I needed to do to get mediawiki
searching 3 character words:
1. On Windows, in my.ini add:
[mysqld]
ft_min_word_len=3
[myisamchk]
ft_min_word_len=3
2. stop and restart the mysql service.
3. then from mysql (I used phpmyadmin):
REPAIR TABLE archive QUICK;
REPAIR TABLE blobs QUICK;
REPAIR TABLE brokenlinks QUICK;
REPAIR TABLE categorylinks QUICK;
REPAIR TABLE cur QUICK;
REPAIR TABLE hitcounter QUICK;
REPAIR TABLE image QUICK;
REPAIR TABLE imagelinks QUICK;
REPAIR TABLE interwiki QUICK;
REPAIR TABLE ipblocks QUICK;
REPAIR TABLE links QUICK;
REPAIR TABLE linkscc QUICK;
REPAIR TABLE math QUICK;
REPAIR TABLE objectcache QUICK;
REPAIR TABLE old QUICK;
REPAIR TABLE oldimage QUICK;
REPAIR TABLE querycache QUICK;
REPAIR TABLE recentchanges QUICK;
REPAIR TABLE searchindex QUICK;
REPAIR TABLE site_stats QUICK;
REPAIR TABLE user QUICK;
REPAIR TABLE user_newtalk QUICK;
REPAIR TABLE watchlist QUICK;
I don't know if you need to do it with all the tables, but it didn't seem to
hurt.
Cheers,
al.

MySQL restricts Full Text Searches to 4 letters or more to keep the
index small. Have a look in the manual. You can change some defines I
think to change this behavior. Might have become a config option in a
newer release.
Does anyone know how to set the variable "passwordremindertext"? This
controls the message that is sent out via email when a new account is
created. I find many instances of it in the /languages directory but
don't know which one controls the english text.
I am running mediawiki version 1.3.9.
Thank you,
