Dear fellow Indian Wikimedians,
Would you know if there are Tibetan language (bo) Wikimedia project editors
in India? I ask because presently Tibetan is not listed in the set of what
we consider language wikimedia communities concerning India.
In India, Tibetic people are found in the regions of Ladakh (Ladakhi and
Balti), Spiti valley, Uttarakhand (Bhotiya), Sikkim (Bhutia), and Arunachal
Pradesh (Khamba, Lhoba and Monpa people). There are also nearly 100,000
Tibetans living in exile in India since 1959.
(Please see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tibetan_people#In_India)
It is highly unlikely that the Tibetan community, which has the maximum
population in Tibet proper, and which uses the Tibetan script for writing
the language, would get any support in their homeland. As we have lakhs of
Indian citizens of ancestral Tibetic origin who belong to this community
and most likely use these Tibetan language (bo) Wikimedia projects in
India, we need to look out for them.

Subject: [Wikimedia-l] Call for Candidates for the Movement Charter
Drafting Committee
To: Wikimedia Mailing List <wikimedia-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
Dear fellow Wikimedians,
Movement Strategy announces the Call for Candidates for the Movement
Charter Drafting Committee
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Movement_Charter/Draftin…>.
The Call opens August 2, 2021 and closes September 1, 2021.
The Committee is expected to represent diversity in the Movement
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Movement_Charter/Draftin…>.
Diversity includes gender, language, geography, and experience. This
comprises participation in projects, affiliates, and the Wikimedia
Foundation.
English fluency is not required to become a member. If needed, translation
and interpretation support is provided. Members will receive an allowance
to offset participation costs. It is US$100 every two months.
We are looking for people who have some of the following skills
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Movement_Charter/Draftin…>
:
- Know how to write collaboratively. (demonstrated experience is a plus)
- Are ready to find compromises.
- Focus on inclusion and diversity.
- Have knowledge of community consultations.
- Have intercultural communication experience.
- Have governance or organization experience in non-profits or
communities.
- Have experience negotiating with different parties.
The Committee is expected to start with 15 people. If there are 20 or more
candidates, a mixed election and selection process will happen. If there
are 19 or fewer candidates, then the process of selection without election
takes place.
Will you help move Wikimedia forward in this important role? As August 2
has arrived to the most "eastern" time zones (e.g. the Line Islands
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Line_Islands>), you can already *submit your
candidacy here
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Movement_Charter/Drafting_Committee/Candida…>*
.
Please contact strategy2030[image: (_AT_)]wikimedia.org with questions.
Wishing you all a wonderful month of August!

Hello everyone,
We are happy to announce that we are launching a new photography campaign
for this year’s Independence day, named Share Your Struggle[1].
It is a public photo competition on Wikimedia Commons. The goal of the
project is to improve coverage of free usable media files related to
various struggles, such as social movements,
natural disasters, health crises such as COVID-19 pandemic, conflict-torn
areas, and any other humanitarian crises. The goal is not only to document
crises, but also humanitarian efforts and acts of kindness that happen
during such crises.
Given this is the first time and a pilot, the scope is limited to India
only and related to a specific incident or theme only. We are just getting
started to put this together to run the campaign, and it would be really
helpful to get more volunteers from the wider community to be involved in
organizing the campaign.
If you are interested, please fill in the volunteer sign up form[2]. Also,
feedback and
suggestions are welcome on the talk page[3]. For any queries contact
