Dear Wikimedians,
I am reaching out to you in regarding the Movement Charting Drafting
Committee
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Movement_Charter/Drafting_Committee>setup
and to have a selector on behalf of the South Asian region (SAARC).
Although the representatives of the region's affiliates have been notified
in advance, I would like, upon requests, to extend the information to the
community that the decision on the selector from South Asia should be made
by *10 October*.
In order to help make a decision, a meeting has been proposed on *October
9, 2021, *to be facilitated by Wikimedia Bangladesh, during which we hope
that decision will be reached. More details about the meeting and the
process are on the *SAARC selection page*
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Movement_Charter/Affiliates_by_Region/SAARC>
on Meta.
The chosen selector will be one of 9 selectors who will select, on behalf
of affiliates, six members of the Movement Charter Drafting Committee
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Movement_Charter/Drafting_Committee/Candida…>.
The process is an opportunity to take part in choosing the members of the
committee, who will be responsible for writing a governance document that
is expected to be of much importance to affiliates and for the Wikimedia
Movement's future.
Please note that this announcement is regarding a process that is *limited
to Wikimedia affiliates (only local user groups and chapters*). The
wikiproject communities will be able to cast their votes for the Movement
Charter's Drafting Committee through a separate election process that will
open on 11 October.
Apologies if this information comes a bit late. Please feel free to share
around in the relevant spaces, and let me know if there's anything I can
help with.
All the best,
Abbad.

Hello,
From today, WLM India team will start the review process of the
photographs submitted
in the competition
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Images_from_Wiki_Loves_Monument…>.
There was a delay of 6 days in initiating the review process because the
judging tool which we use, had some major issues and was not allowing us to
log in the tool. The developers had rolled out few fixes and the tool is
working now.
Like previous years, the organizers will review first 2-3 rounds to filter
out images with obvious issues like out of scope, presence of watermarks or
timestamp, bad tilt, blurry images, over-processed images etc and then
forward the filtered images to the jury members who will take another 2-3
rounds to finish the review and declare results. As we have started a week
late to review, we might finish a week late compared to previous years.

Bodhisattwa

Subject: [Wikimedia-l] Quick upvoting of statements for the Movement
Charter Election Compass until Sunday, Oct 3
To: Wikimedia Mailing List <wikimedia-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
TL;DR: Upvote your favorite Movement Charter Election Compass statements
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Movement_Charter/Drafting_Committee/Electio…>
until October 3rd.
///////////////////////////////////////
Hello everyone,
in roughly 10 days, on October 11, we will start the voting on the
community candidates for the drafting committee that will draft the
Movement Charter. We got 72 candidates running for the committee!
To be able to guide all of you through so many candidacies, we want to
provide a Voting Advice Application. You can find the prototype here on
Toolforge <https://mcdc-election-compass.toolforge.org/>.
Over the last week, we got 110 statements proposed by community members: On
values and principles, on resource allocation, on the charter drafting
process. Thank you very much!
*The next step is now to select 15 to 20 of these statements for the final
advice application -- your turn! *Upvote the statements you would like to
see included in the voting advice application:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Movement_Charter/Drafting_Committee/Electio…
You can vote on as many statements as you like, but only one vote per
statement. *Think about which statements you would like to see the
candidates positioning themselves to, which might help you in your
decision-making.* The ~20 statements with the most votes will be selected
and send to the candidates on Monday, October 4th.
All of this is an experiment, we're happy to get feedback!
Best regards
Cornelius

I hope you are doing well, I am writing this email to announce the call for
applications for the second cohort of EduWiki Outreach Collaborators. EduWiki
Outreach Collaborators or EWOC are a dynamic group of Wikimedians who
collaborate with the education team at the Wikimedia Foundation to provide
support, effective collaboration, and learning opportunities for the
education community in the Wikimedia movement.
In 2020, we started this pilot initiative to work with community leaders of
our movement to support volunteers in the movement with better networking,
communication practices for growth, and to work together to spread the
awareness on the value of Wikimedia in education. As a result of which we
had the opportunity to work with 14 Wikimedia community members from
various parts of the world. These volunteers helped in publishing 12
Education newsletters issues, shared many community stories from their
regions, and helped in hosting 3 regional education meetings with 54
participants from 20 countries.
This year we are planning to expand the program and we are planning to work
with 20 volunteers in 8 different roles. To have more information regarding
this program, please visit our Meta page.
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Education/EduWiki_Outreach_Collaborators#Ro…>
The strategic goals are designed by the 2020-2021 cohort of volunteers.
We encourage volunteers from all regions and genders to be a part of this
project! We expect the group of EWOC to represent the diversity of our
movement and the call for participation will be open until we achieve this
goal. Respecting the privacy of the members, personal information provided
will not be shared with an external audience. To apply for this
opportunity, please complete this form.

Hello all,
We have reached the 12th day of WLM 2021 and now have around 1200 images of
monuments i.e. around 100 images per day, which is kind of lower than
previous years and which is expected considering the COVID-19 movement
restrictions. The organizers are currently filtering out poor quality
images, out of scope images, images with watermarks and images which lack
sufficient documentation to identify monuments.
We now have totally moved to a static map based navigation of monuments - see
here
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_in_India/Up…>.
If you now click on the states and UTs in the map or in the box, it will
direct you to specific pages for the monuments situated there like this
page for West Bengal
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_in_India/We…>.
Thanks to Krishna <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:KCVelaga>for
patiently working
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_maps_of_In…>on
the svg maps of all states and UTs. We intend to make the navigation more
granular district wise like this page
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_in_India/Mo…>
for districtwise non-designated temples of Tamil Nadu, but it is beyond our
capacity to work on all districts of India.
The reason we have not worked towards dynamic map navigation this year is
because coordinates are missing for a large percentage of Indian monuments
on Wikidata and without the coordinates, dynamic map will not deliver the
expected impact. It is also beyond our capacity to work on coordinates of
all monuments of India and thus your involvement is needed.
From our side, we are totally focusing on monuments of West Bengal. Indrajit
Das <https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Indrajitdas> is creating a database
of gaves located in different cemeteries of West Bengal and they are
getting included in our lists here
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_in_India/Mo…>.
Till now, more than 2000 graves are included in these lists here and it
will grow throughout the year. Simultaneously, we are also filling gaps of
our existing tables like this one
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_in_India/Mo…>
etc. Our focus on West Bengal will continue for the next couple of years
until we cover all monuments located there, which are pre-documented in
different sources. Considering our limited capacity, we will only focus on
optimal categorization on Commons for other states from our side assuming
that the rest of the work will be taken care of by experienced volunteers
from respective states sooner or later.
The 3-members jury team
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2021_in_Ind…>
has been formed after their confirmation. The jury members remain the same
as last year. Their decision will be final and irrevocable and the
organizing team will have no influence over the jury process just like
previous years. The entire review process will be completed within the last
day of October as we did previously.
See you and amazing photographs there in WLM,
