Without R&D progress is not possible. Becoz every Indic language differes
esp., in the interfaces. Many interface admins are not having sufficient
experiences. My request is listen "their needs". Like google OCR, we
need voice input tools, floating keyboard, sidebar toggle as in
translatewiki.

Greetings All,
We are happy to announce that the CIS-A2K team have been initiated to
develop the Wikisource Android apps for Wikisource reader. Over the last
couple of months, a group of devs from the Tamil language community have
been putting together an Android Wikisource App for us. They have been
finished their POC of the app. In the coming month, we will engage some
developers to develop iOS apps for the same. We think it's finally gotten
to a good state for people to start hacking on it.
For those just wanting to get started here are the links Initial code:
https://github.com/ViluppuramGLUG/WikisourceApp feature ideas landing page:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikisource_Apps How can you help?
In the coming month, we may help to do the following ... * Fork the code
and help us with open bug requests * Critique the code and suggest a
cleanup * Start to hack on new features UI. * Localization for the user
interface
Also, you may comment/suggest/feedback our meta talk page

Subject: [Wikimedia-l] Movement Charter Drafting Committee elections are
now open!
To: Wikimedia Mailing List <wikimedia-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
Hello everyone,
Voting for the election for the members for the Movement Charter drafting
committee is now open. In total, 70 Wikimedians from around the world are
running for seven seats in these elections.
As recommended by the Movement Strategy recommendations, the goal is to
assemble a Drafting Committee that will draft a Movement Charter to ensure
a common framework for decision making in the Wikimedia movement
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Strategy/Wikimedia_movement/2018-20/Recomme…>.
The committee will consist of 15 members in total: The online communities
vote for 7 members, 6 members will be selected by the Wikimedia affiliates
through a parallel process, and 2 members will be appointed by the
Wikimedia Foundation. The plan is to assemble the committee by November 1,
2021.
Voting is open from October 12 10:00 UTC to October 24, 2021 23:59 (Anywhere
on Earth <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anywhere_on_Earth>).
Learn more about the candidates
Candidates from across the movement have submitted their candidatures. Learn
about each candidate to inform your vote
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Movement_Charter/Drafting_Committee/Candida…>.
The statements are translated to a number of languages, so you can have
access to the information in many of your preferred languages.
Additionally, we are piloting a so-called “Election Compass
<https://mcdc-election-compass.toolforge.org/>” for this election. Click
yourself through the tool and respond to the 19 statements, and you will
see which candidate is closest to you! The tool is available in ~9
languages (English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Arabic,
Indonesian, Hausa).
Voting
Similar to the previous Board elections, we have chosen Single Transferable
Vote
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Wikimedia_Foundation_ele…>
for the voting system. The benefit of this is voters can rank their choices
in order of preference. Learn more about voting requirements
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Wikimedia_Foundation_ele…>,
how to vote
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Wikimedia_Foundation_ele…>,
and frequently asked questions about voting
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Wikimedia_Foundation_ele…>
.
To cast your vote, please go to SecurePoll
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Movement_Charter/Drafting_Committee/Electio…>
.
We also offer two question and answer times, if you have any questions
regarding the Movement Charter and the voting process:w
-
Wednesday, 19:00 UTC, on Google Meet
-
Thursday, 13:00 UTC, on Zoom (that’s the Conversation Time with Maggie
Dennis)
Please write a short message to answers(a)wikimedia.org if you want to
participate in one of these.
Please help select people who best fit the needs of the movement at this
time. Vote and spread the word so more people can vote for candidates. Our
aim is to have a committee with Wikimedians that combine the diversity of
the Wikimedia Movement as well as a great mix of competencies.
Best,
Kaarel Vaidla, on behalf of the Movement Strategy & Governance team,
Wikimedia Foundation

Hello,
Apologies for posting several times in the last few days.
Yesterday we held a meeting for the SAARC region regarding its selector.
The selector will represent the region when casting the affiliates vote for
choosing members of the Movement Charter Drafting Committee. The result
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Movement_Charter/Affiliates_by_Region/SAARC…>
was
agreement on *User:Suyash.dwivedi* as the region's selector. Suyash will be
one among eight representatives of other regions who will take part on
behalf of affiliates.
Additionally, all of you, as Wikimedians, have the chance to cast your
votes in the *Drafting Committeee's elections* that will start in a few
hours and run until 24 October. Here's a link to the candidates page
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Movement_Charter/Drafting_Committee/Candida…>
(the
option for voting will appear there soon).
All the best,
Abbad.

Hello everyone,
Thank you to all of those who attended today's meeting to discuss the
selection process for the selector of the SAARC/South Asia region.
Based on the results of the discussion, you will have a chance to nominate
yourself as a selector
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Movement_Charter/Affiliates_by_Region/SAARC…>
(or to encourage people from your affiliate/group to self-nominate!) until *5
PM on 10 October*, according to the local time *anywhere in the SAARC
region*.
*Anyone can self-nominate. *You're not obliged to be a representative of a
particular affiliate, although you'll need to be a member of one -
communities, on the other hand, will have a chance to participate in the
open elections that will start in a couple of days.
All the best,
Abbad.

Hello all!
As a reminder, it's time to submit your nomination and submission for
*WikidataCon
2021*.
During last *WikidataCon* in Berlin, *WikiProject India* had won the *Community
Building award*. This time to you can nominate your favorite Wikidata
projects for the community awards. It can be any tools, WikiProjects,
events, initiatives. Feel free to add anything you like before 10th of
October.[1]
We have seen many cool gadgets/tools that have been created/developed by
the community which are very useful for the community members for editing
and interacting with Wikidata. I believe many community members are
interested in discovering new gadgets and scripts during this WD
conference. So if you are a tool developer or experienced tool user you are
invited to submit a proposal for a presentation for WikidataCon 2021. If
you are interested, you can find information about how to submit a session
proposal at [2], and you can access the submission form here at [3].
And finally you can also create birthday presents 🎁 for Wikidata’s ninth
anniversary! You can prepare a present, with a team or on your own, and
present it during the birthday presents lightning talks session. If you
would like to book a slot, make sure to fill in this form before October
16th.[4]
