Not all links are delimited by '[' and ']', so that doesn't really
have anything to do with it. I think we have to say something more
than "anything other than a space can be in a URI"; e.g.
"http://example.com" should turn into a free link, but should not
include the " at the end; similarly
http://example.com|http://example.net should probably not include the
'|' (in actual fact, it seems to generate two links, but the first
includes the '|' - go figure). In which case, since a standard exists,
we might as well stick to that, and ignore any links which don't
adhere to the standard.
