Hello,
I'm really anxious to get Mediawiki working, so I'm really hoping somebody can help me here (as an early Christmas present =)
Setup:
FreeBSD 5.3 MediaWiki 1.3.9 MySQL 4.1.7 PHP 4.1.10 Apache 1.3.x
When I fill out the initial config information at config/index.php (SQL server info, sysop account info, etc.) and submit, I get nothing but a blank screen. I'm not seeing any error messages in my SQL error log, so I'm having difficulty troubleshooting this problem.
I have setup the wikidb database and created the wikiuser granting this user full access. My MySQL 4.1 setup works for all of my other databases, and I can login as this user via the command line (no error messages visible, I do know that MySQL 4.1 presented some authentication hiccups).
What is the best way to go about troubleshooting this? Is this problem related to MySQL 4.1 or something else?
Thanks SO much in advance!

FreeBSD 5.3 MediaWiki 1.3.9
I recommend you try MediaWiki 1.4.beta, as many installation problems are resolved.
MySQL 4.1.7
There are many problems with MySQL 4.1. Use 4.0 if you don't need 4.1.
Check that PHP was compiled with the MySQL 4.1 client libraries: make a script with <?php phpinfo() ?> and check for the MySQL section and see what client version it lists. If it's not 4.1.something, you will probably have problems. See http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/Old_client.html for some background and hints. You can recompile PHP and force it to use the installed client libraries to update it.
MySQL 4.1's character set options may also cause trouble, particularly if its default charset is set to UTF-8.
PHP 4.1.10
I hope you mean 4.3.10! :)
Check for potential problem settings like safe_mode, open_basedir, etc. Check the MySQL client above.

Thanks so much for your speedy response!
As it turned out, my problems were solved with MediaWiki 1.4.3 beta3 - even while running MySQL 4.1...
(yes I did mean PHP 4.3.10 =)
Thanks so much!
