I've made a snapshot release candidate from 1.9 branch; this is a chance to get a few more possible installation/upgrade regressions tested and fixed.
A more widely announced 'final' 1.9.0 release will come after another day or two.

Hi,
I've noticed that when I go to Mediawiki:Sidebar (as a Sysop) in 1.9.0 (rc2), I get the page as usual, but there are mising tabs, then when I click on Edit, I get the following :
"You've followed a link to a page that doesn't exist yet. To create the page, start typing in the box below (see the help page for more info). If you are here by mistake, just click your browser's back button."
HOWEVER, the text is already there
* navigation ** mainpage|mainpage ** portal-url|portal ** currentevents-url|currentevents ** recentchanges-url|recentchanges ** randompage-url|randompage ** helppage|help ** sitesupport-url|sitesupport
Moreover, if I go to Special:Allpages --> namespace : Mediawiki, I got an empty page.
Fresh install, php 5.1.6, mysql 5.0.24, WinXP, all of this as a Sysop. (no problem with 1.8.2 fresh install)
Does anybody noticed this ?

Dear Alexis, yes, I can confirm, that there issomething unusual.
Mediawiki:Sidebar doesnt exist in my wiki. Do you cleared your browser-cache? e.g. STRG-SHIFT-R in Firefox, while watching Mediawiki:Sidebar.
My "Special:Allpages --> namespace : Mediawiki" shows 3 pages (Login, Mainpage, Sitenotice). Perhaps i edited them, its not a fresh install.
Regards, Jan

Yep (it's become a kind of reflex) :-)
My "Special:Allpages --> namespace : Mediawiki" shows 3 pages
should be hundreds (or is it a choice from the developers not to show them ?)
Perhaps i edited them, its not a fresh install.
Yes, once they are edited, they appear on the list (sounds logical to me)
Thanks Jan

The MediaWiki: namespace messages aren't in the software anymore (by default) as of a few days ago. The reason is, as I get it, that the devs are trying to speed up the process of reading/showing the interface messages by MediaWiki (it's supposed to read them faster from the Messages*.php file). I might be wrong, though.

I upgraded from 1.4.12, and Mediawiki:Sidebar was present for me and working correctly. However, the "message" tab link at the top of the page was red, even though the page was present and didn't go to edit mode when the link was followed. Editing the page made the link go to the standard bolded blue text. Not really damaging, but odd.
Tested upgrade from 1.4.12 > 1.9.0rc2 * MediaWiki: 1.9.0rc2 * PHP: 5.2.0-0.dotdeb.3 (apache2handler) * MySQL: 4.1.11-Debian_4sarge7-log
Followed these steps: * Wiped everything but /extensions /images LocalSettings.php and AdminSetttings.php * Copied over 1.9.0rc2 files * Ran maintenance/upgrade1_5.php * Ran maintenance/update.php * Updated LocalSettings.php with new settings. * Ran maintenance/refreshLinks.php
Upgrade scripts completed without any errors. Exceptional! Upgrade1_5.php was not able to run successfully on this system before.
Issues: * One of the project pages is now empty/non-existent and links to it are red. ** This page on the current public 1.4.12 server is http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Valve_Developer_Community:Terms_of_u... here ** Strangely, the talk page is still present.
* Interwiki links are not resolving (Show up in red as Wikipedia:linkname). 'WikiPedia' is correctly listed in the mw_interwiki table.
* Page with // in title not linking correctly. ** Page working in 1.4.12 http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/The_steam://_Protocol here : ** Links to this page go to "The steam:/ Protocol"
* "My Watchlist" page is empty of links, even though pages are still marked as watched and show up in recent changes as bolded.
That's it so far. I haven't merged/applied our custom code and skin yet. That's next.

*boggle* :)
Issues:
- One of the project pages is now empty/non-existent and links to it are
red. ** This page on the current public 1.4.12 server is http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Valve_Developer_Community:Terms_of_u... here ** Strangely, the talk page is still present.
Hmm... First, take a peek in the database:
SELECT * FROM page WHERE page_namespace=4 and page_title='Terms_of_use';
make sure it made it through intact.
Double-check that $wgSiteName and $wgMetaNamespace are set correctly. If there are spaces, try underscores and see if it makes a difference.
- Interwiki links are not resolving (Show up in red as Wikipedia:linkname).
'WikiPedia' is correctly listed in the mw_interwiki table.
Try changing the table to use lowercase values in iw_prefix (but it shouldn't make a difference, in testing I just did).
- Page with // in title not linking correctly.
** Page working in 1.4.12 http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/The_steam://_Protocol here : ** Links to this page go to "The steam:/ Protocol"
This is actually a known problem with Apache 2's path handling; it merges adjacent /s before they get passed down to the level where the wiki sees it.
Are you running Apache 1.x on the main server and Apache 2.x on the test server, perhaps?
- "My Watchlist" page is empty of links, even though pages are still marked
as watched and show up in recent changes as bolded.
Check with some new edits and confirm it's not just that older items fell off the list...?

I had to change 'page' to 'mw_page' to run the query. All the tables in the database are prefixed with "mw_". Is this incorrect? No results, though I found the talk page in namespace 5. That means it didn't make the transition. I'll go back to an earlier snapshot pre-upgrade (I'm using VMWare) to make sure it survived the mysql database import.

Ouch. Yes, we're running 1.333 on the main server, and Apache2 on the test server. Thanks for the heads up. You don't happened to know if there is a workaround do you? I realize it's not a Mediawiki problem, though.

I tried clicking the 'all' link, and still no older pages in the watchlist appear. I also tried editing the url to '/w/index.php?title=Special:Watchlist&days=60' with no result. Checking Special:Recentchanges with a 30 day timeframe shows multiple watched pages.
On a more process-related note, would you rather that issues like these were split into multiple posts, or in a single one like this? Or should issues be put directly into Bugzilla?
Thanks for your assistance.

Ah, I think I just answered my own question. I didn't realize MW 1.9 could run on Apache 1.X. I should just try downgrading (unless someone else has a suggestion).
