I have been cleaning up videos that are not used by deleting the page
created when the asset is uploaded, using the Delete button at the
top, when logged in as WikiSysop.
I notice the images/archive folder is over 1 GB in size. Can I safely
delete everything inside it, just leaving the empty archive folder?
We have a large hard drive, but create a new image every week for
backup, and it would save time.
This is in MediaWiki 1.5.4, PHP 4.4.7, MySQL 5.0.18
Please, no lectures on updating, will do so at end of semester :-)

I do not really know, though it would seem logical that you can remove
them. But if you're sure you don't need the content anymore, and your
main concern is disk space, I suppose a safe way to deal with this is
to replace the content with an empty string.
Still, if the images/archive folder is only a few GB in size, I
wouldn't bother. Disk space isn't that expensive.
Kind regards,
