For a quick fix, take away the wiki user's write permissions to the
database. There is also a locking mechanism using Special:Lockdb,
although this requires now-deprecated configuration options. I believe
a lock file mechanism still works, so you could search Meta
(
http://meta.wikimedia.org) for that.
