I didn't see this issue addressed in the help pages. Is there a way to
escape a "|"?
I'm sure I've managed this: you have to make sure that the "|" is not
the
first character of the line.
Take a look at this:

You will note that "||" is used to separate cells. "|" characters not
at the
start of a line, provided they are not marking the end of a "properties
block", are displayed fine.
