It seems that the ability to make subpages is a standard part of mediawiki; see http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Link#Subpage_feature
But maybe you need the extension to list the subpages from the ancestor page.
See http://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3APrefixIndex&prefix... for a built-in way to list pages, but the extension is much nicer.

We installed the extension http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:SubPageList2 and then write:

The "deepness" option seems to work non-intuitively; see http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:SubPageList2#deepness
In case it matters, our basic system is: MediaWiki 1.15.1 PHP 5.1.6 (apache2handler) MySQL 5.0.77-log

Thanks!
What you are saying makes sense - but I am curious, since subpages seem to be there right from the start, without you having to install any extensions, there must be an even easier way of doing this.
Boris.
