stable 1.3 are feature-frozen and get security updates
beta 1.4 mostly introduces features like more information in
the DB and smarter use of it - no new routines for accessing new
directories with write permission or immediate quiestionable features
like that. However I could be wrong (Brion is the guy to ask).
I feel pretty confident it's safe, though I haven't given it a code
review.

They are quite solid. Stay away from the 1.5 alphas though :)
