You can take that approach, too. A bureaucrat has the ability to use
the Special:Userrights module, i.e. to promote/demote administrators.

Rob, Wouldn't it be easier if I just reinstalled
and set the bureaucrat user
correctly? What would I see if logged in as bureaucrat that I'm not seeing
now?

Subject: Re: [Mediawiki-l] WikiSysop User -- Bureaucrat Users
"WikiSysop" is the default name of the user created during
installation. This user account has full bureaucrat and administrator
permissions by default. During the install procedure, you are given
the option to rename this account.
If you have both your account, and the WikiSysop account, then the
likely explanation is that you forgot to change this name during
installation and, post install, created a new account. This new
account probably doesn't have anything other than ordinary user
permissions.
User information is not held in a file, rather, it is held in the
database MediaWiki uses to store data. Users are held in the "users"
table. Direct modification of this table is possible, but ought to be
done with caution.
To grant the other user account these permissions, first get the
internal ID number of the account; probably 2. Then, using a tool such
as the phpMyAdmin mySQL administration utility, go into the
user_groups table and add a new row. The ug_user field should contain
the internal ID number of the user to be promoted (as above, this is
probably 2), and the ug_group field should contain the text
"bureaucrat".
Hope this helps,

I thougth I had set my self as the bureaucreat or
wikisysop when I set up
my wiki. But when I look in special pages/user list I see my log in name
and a seperate user identified as WikiSysop and designated as a
bureaucrat. I cannot log in as WikiSysop using the password I used when
setting up the Wiki.
Q. How do I designate myself and only myself as a bureacrat? Do I need to
use the user name WikiSysop?
Q. What file holds the password so I can confirm I'm using the correct
pass?
