Hello,
I have been trying to customize the output of MW 1.3
b5
When I modify skin.php I don't see any changes.
My current skin is the monobook default.
Which file do I need to be looking at to modify the
output, add my own custom content above the main
article and below it.
Also, if I want to add something underneath the search
box, where do I do that?
It seems like modifying /templates/monobook/main.css
would not add content, simply change the way things
look.
Thanks!
Jimmy

Hello
Is there a discussion forum out there with a lot of
Media WIki users on it? Seems like it might be an
efficient way to ask questions and discuss the
project.
Thanks

In version 1.2.6 I modified SkinXXXXXXXX.php to affect the changes that I
wished to the page output.

Hello thanks for your comments on the MediaWiki
mailing list...
Where did you end up editing then?
Even with the PHPtal in MW 1.3 beta 5 I haven't any
idea on where to insert my own site's menu items,
footers, etc..?
Thanks!
Jimmy

I'm in the process of setting up an internal corporate
documentation
wiki
and have gone through the exact same pains with 1.2.6
- unfortunately
PHPTal
isn't implemented in this version (as far as I can
tell) so I've taken
to
modifying the code directly.

Hi,
some notes and questions on beta5:
The "plain" installation and also the general upgrade process from older
wikis (here: 1.2.4) seems to be OK for now. I see none of the
installation errors (PEAR etc.) which occured when upgrading to beta4.
But: When upgrading a 1.2.4 wiki with approx. 1300 pages, all present
pages are gone. Even on the "All pages" and on the link for orphaned
pages, I see none of the old articles, although they are present in the
database, although I used the same site name ($wgSitename) as before.
Did I miss something here? Do I need adiditional "tweaking" after
upgrading from 1.2.4?
(Installation-Log ist enclosed)
Bye, Thommie

Hello
Points well taken on the openness of wiki... (wanted
to prevent spammers from messing up the pages)
Few more questions then.
So the SkinPHPTal page controls the main output?
For example, if I wanted to insert a picture
underneath the navigation menu, or above the top
menubar ("article" "edit" "discuss")... where should i
be placing my <img> and other info.
If I wanted to add my site's default footer toolbar,
where would I insert those?
Also,
A random problem.
ON my Wiki, I set my $wgSitename = "MysiteName" in my
localsettings.php file.
However (I have imported the Wictionary cur tables for
testing) and on the Title of each page it says "Main
Page - Wictionary" instead of "Main Page - MysiteName"
Any ideas on that?
Thanks
Jimmy

Hi. Is there a way to turn off the mediawiki interpretation of various
control-key sequences?
I ask because I am a lifelong Emacs user, and because my Mac OSX system
is set up to obey many emacs navigation commands. So, when I'm
entering content, I am very likely to type
control-E to go to the start of a line
control-P to go up one line
and, of course, this leads to all sorts of confusion while editing wiki
content.
Is there a flag I can set, to prevent the mediawiki site from
interpreting these control-key sequences?
