EU’s GDPR and MediaWiki

Hey Everyone Is there any roadmap for MediaWiki that addresses the EU’s GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) being enforced as of 28 May 2018? Mainly addressing user registration on websites and holding what the EU deems personally identifiable information of EU residents such as usernames, real names, email addresses, etc. A method to prove consent such as a checkbox for Terms of Service and the date consent was given. From the read of GDPR, it effects any company or organization (even those outside the EU) who store data on someone living in the EU. Tom

Proposal to make this mailing list publically indexable by search engines

Currently https://lists.wikimedia.org/robots.txt bans indexing the public archives of this list (at https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/mediawiki-l/ ) Appearently this happened back in 2005 due to some people complaining about their posts on some lists (not neccesarily this one) being at the top of google. I think its kind of rediculous the tech support list for mediawiki not indexable by google*. The first step for anyone trying to solve their problem should be to google it but yet we don't let google show results from this list. Its my understanding that if a list want to be indexed by google, that the config would be changed for lists that request it. Thus, I would like to formerly propose that mediawiki-l be allowed to be indexed by google et al. Thoughts? Objections? -- Brian

what hook for adding html right after <body> tag regardless of skin

Hello, I'd like to place a small banner stripe div across the top of every wiki page regardless of the skin. What is the best hook for writing a tiny hook extension in localsettings that can add a little bit of html to evey page regardless of the skin. Thank you, -Rich

Metrolook problem with some anchor link

Hello, I have a problem with links "anchor", but only with the theme "metrolook" (no problem with "Vector" for example). When I activate the "Metrolook" theme, the complex "anchor" links no longer work. The simple links works. help with hook in localsettings

I am trying to write my first hook for localsettings.php I'm trying to write a hook that will place a tiny html div with some linked text at the top left corner of every page (over top the site logo if need be). Here is what I have so far: $wgHooks['OutputPageBeforeHTML'][] = 'MyExtensionHook4topleft'; function MyExtensionHook4topleft( &$out ) { ....tbd... = "<div style="position:fixed;left:0px;top:0px"><a href="https://somelink.com">test</a></div>"; return true; } Is this right so far? looking for insight on using $wgForeignFileRepos

I have been asked by my organization if it is possible to use Mediawiki as a way to display and collaboratively discuss images from an old local file store while maintaining the original folder structure on the image directory tree. To that end, I have been reading the talk page of the MW manual for $wgForeignFileRepos [0] and it is clear to me that this has been attempted with some success as far back as 2011. * I know that I can turn off the hashed upload directory feature with $wgHashedUploadDirectory, but it is not clear to me what progress has been made (if any) on allowing domain admins to add files to a foreign upload folder and then running some kind of image repair maintenance script that would update the mediawiki db file table with all the images found in the upload folder and keeping the structured directories in-tact. My question is: Does anyone have any updated insights or experience on doing this (or something similar)? We didn't receive a lot of candidatures this session, so we'd like to ask you to think for the next months if you would like to serve in the 2019 half I committee, and to be ready in October to join the boat. Sharing users and session across wikis im MW 1.27

Dear all, I'd like to have a very simple solution to sharing user tables and session data between two mediawiki installations on the same webhost. Feature 1: Users that log in into wiki B and already have user credentials in wiki A can use the same credentials (wiki A is the master, wiki B the "slave" wiki) Feature 2: Users that are currently logged in into wiki A should be logged in in wiki B without additional login-procedure The shared database instruction seems not to be very up to date: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Shared_database It leads to the documentation about SessionManager and AuthManager of MW 1.27. https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:SessionManager_and_AuthManager But now it seems to get really complicated. Can someone show me a very simple example on how to do this in two MW 1.27.x installations on the same webhost? Wiki A in my example already exists. Now I want to setup wiki B (in a separate database, but on the same webhost) and would appreciate a simple way to do this. cheers, Bernhard
